Tek što je sezona završila, mnogobrojni hrvatski klubovi bacili su se na posao znajući kako je često ključno sastaviti rane konture momčadi. Prvi su potez povukli u Dinamu na čiju je klupu sjeo iskusni Jakša Vulić , da bi potom Damir Milačić preuzeo Zabok. Suradnju s Cedevitom Junior nastavlja spasitelj Vladimir Krstić , dok su u Alkaru jako blizu potpisa velikog igračkog pojačanja. U međuvremenu iz Cibone svakodnevno stižu sve ozbiljnije najave.
Čitavo to vrijeme tišina je tamo gdje nikada nije tiho – u Zadru. „Gradom košarke” ne može se čuti ništa osim pukih špekulacija, a one sve češće na klupu dalmatinskog velikana guraju Darija Gjergju . S druge strane, saznali smo da Gjergja jest zainteresiran za zadarsku klupu, no da prvo želi znati s kolikim budžetom klub raspolaže. Spominjao se i Stipe Modrić , no on bi trebao ostati u Iliriji, situaciju svakako pomno prati Dražen Anzulović , a navodno je jedan od kandidata i Ivan Tomas . Ako sve propadne, možda će se i riskirati s Tonijem Dijanom , relativno mladim domaćim trenerom koji košarku ima u malom prstu, no s druge strane pitanje je njegovih ambicija jer je početkom prošle sezone napustio klupu Zadra, a razlog su navodno bila učestala putovanja.
I da, svakako ste primijetili da nismo spomenuli ime trenera koji još ima, doduše samo do 30. lipnja, ugovor sa Zadrom, Danijela Jusupa . Teško je očekivati da će ovo ljeto biti još jedno u kojem će trofejni trener dobiti bitku i nastaviti svoj put. Teško je povjerovati da će Jusup uopće započeti tu bitku jer je dojam da je i njemu dosta. A, gledajući sezonu, Jusup nije ni zaslužio novi ugovor, no...
U Zadru se velika kampanja vodi za i protiv Jusupa. S obiju strana stižu raznorazni „ukrasni” pridjevi, jedni navodno neće ući u dvoranu ako ga se makne, dok će drugi, što bi se reklo, vrtjeti ražanj. Ovakav ili onakav, naravno da je istina negdje u sredini, no barem se u sportu činjenice mogu lako izmjeriti.
KK Zadar osvojio je ukupno 23 trofeja u svojoj povijesti. Od 23 trofeja čak osam imaju Jusupov potpis. Nijedan drugi trener nije ih uspio osvojiti više od dva. Dakle, Danijel Jusup najtrofejniji je trener, složit će se svi, velikana hrvatske košarke. Kako i zašto se onda njegov status konstantno propitkuje? I tu se vrti uvijek ona ista mantra, da je težak za suradnju, da ne gura mlade, no tu ćemo se zaustaviti jer i to možemo izmjeriti. Posljednji zadarski euroligaški bek – Rok Stipčević , a prije njega Marko Popović i Marko Banić , pa zahvalni klupski igrači kakvi danas nedostaju – Jakov Vladović , Toni Dijan, Šime Špralja , Ive Ivanov , a vratimo li se još malo više u prošlost doći ćemo do imena Hrvoja Perinčića , braće Ružić ... Svi oni priliku su dobili baš kod Jusupa. Tko sluša, radi i prođe njegov režim, igrat će. Uostalom, minute se zaslužuju, a ne poklanjaju.
Zadarska publika jest zahtjevna i nije obzirna prema mladima koje navodno željno iščekuje. Možemo se sjetiti na kakvim je sve komentarima bio čašćen taj nekad euroligaški play Stipčević dok je bio kapetan Zadra ili što se sve vikalo Lovri Bašiću...
Može se ući u sezonu sa stavom – u redu, pustimo rezultat, razvijajmo mlade, pa ćemo za tri godine imati dobru momčad. A što onda? Svaki iole kvalitetniji igrač koji izađe iz tog sustava otići će, i to najčešće besplatno. Američka sveučilišta već su napravila totalnu devastaciju europske košarke, dok su odštete u košarci blaga utopija. I onda za tri godine, di si bio, što si radio? Naravno da bi taj model imao smisla da su stvari u košarci kompletno posložene drukčije. No, nažalost, nisu.
Ne treba zaboraviti gdje je Zadar bio prije Jusupova dolaska i čitave ove priče. Česte promjene trenera, godine i godine borbe za opstanak u ABA ligi, godine i godine suše od trofeja, a čitavo to vrijeme nisu se razvijali niti mladi igrači.
Jusup je u ljeto 2022. došao u poluraspali Zadar. Ostala su tek dva seniorska igrača iz prethodne sezone, budžet kluba bio je najmanji u povijesti, a Jusup je skupio grupu „odmetnika”, košarkaških znalaca čiji je razvoj negdje zapeo. Zna se što je ta ekipa izvela, ali osim toga trebao je to biti jasni putokaz kako bi Zadar trebao slagati momčad. Da pojednostavimo – onako kako radi Rijeka u nogometu. Igrači koji tek klize prema najboljim godinama, imaju ono nešto, ali su zapeli. Eto, tako je Zadar preživio, dominirao, ali je bez toga na posljetku i „umro”.
Da, već smo naveli kako se u sportu činjenice mogu lako izmjeriti. Tako je činjenica da je ova netom završena sezona Zadra bila katastrofalna. Igra bez glave i repa, rezultatski podbačaj i loša selekcija igrača na kraju su kulminirali sezonom bez trofeja i svršetkom dominacije. Iako Jusup nije dobio nadogradnju koju je zaslužio, često je nepotrebno vodio ratove s vjetrenjačama. Kat nije pratio parket i rezultat i to ga je nerviralo, kao i navijače, no ovoga je puta njegov fokus više bio usmjeren na one vankošarkaške stvari.
