New white signs painted on cliffs This is what they mean

Itäisen Suomenlahden kansallispuistossa voi tänä kesänä nähdä rantakallioilla valkoisella maalilla tehtyjä ympyröitä, jonka sisässä on rasti.

Merkintöjä löytyy jo kansallispuiston läntisimpien osien saarista, luodoilta ja yksittäisistä veden pinnalle ulottuvista siirtolohkareista.

Merkintöjä tehdään Itäisen Suomenlahden kansallispuiston koko alueelle Pyhtäältä Virolahdelle koko kesän ajan.

Metsähallituksen tiedotteen mukaan merkinnät liittyvät Vedetään pultit -kampanjaan, jonka tavoitteena on suojella Itämeren herkkää luontoa mahdolliselta öljyonnettomuudelta.

Merkintöjen paikalle pultataan loppukesästä kalliorenkaita, jotka mahdollistavat öljyntorjuntapuomien nopean kiinnityksen, jos Suomenlahdella tapahtuu öljyonnettomuus.

Metsähallituksen Luontopalvelujen luonnonsuojelun erityisasiantuntija Maiju Lankin mukaan pulttien paikat valitaan niin, että luontoarvoiltaan tärkeimmät ja herkimmät kohteet saadaan suojattua.

– Tavoitteena on pitää öljy pois rannoilta ja matalasta rantavedestä, koska sieltä öljyä on vaikeaa tai mahdotonta puhdistaa. Paikkojen valintaan vaikuttaa myös se, miten pystymme hyödyntämään öljyntorjuntakalustoa mahdollisimman tehokkaasti, Lanki sanoo tiedotteessa.
