Nachdem das Wetter der geplanten Eröffnung einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht hatte, können Besucherinnen und Besucher nun die verhüllte Pariser Brücke Pont Neuf betreten. Die begehbare Höhle „La Caverne du Pont Neuf“ des Künstlers JR öffnete heute am Abend, wie sein Team mitteilte. Heftiger Wind hatte vor zwei Wochen das Kunstwerk beschädigt. Die Eröffnung Anfang Juni musste verschoben und die Risse geflickt werden.
Die Eröffnung der Kunstinstallation erfolgte ohne große Vorankündigung. „Wir haben Tage und Nächte damit verbracht, sie wieder aufzubauen“, so JR in einer Instagram-Story und räumte ein, dass sie zeitweise „nicht mehr daran glaubten, dass sie zurückkommen würde“.
An Christo und Jeanne-Claude angelehnt
Das Kunstwerk „La Caverne du Pont Neuf“ ist eine aufblasbare Höhlenlandschaft aus Stoff, 120 Meter lang, 20 Meter breit und bis zu 18 Meter hoch. Das Projekt ist eine Hommage an Christo und Jeanne-Claude, deren legendäre Verhüllung der ältesten Pariser Brücke – wie die des Berliner Reichstags 1995 – einst weltweit für Aufsehen sorgte.
Wie hoch die Kosten des Projekts sind, ist nicht bekannt. In Medienberichten kursieren jedoch Summen im sechsstelligen Bereich. Wie sein Team betonte, wurde das Vorhaben ohne öffentliche Gelder realisiert und ausschließlich durch den Verkauf von JR-Werken sowie durch private Unterstützer finanziert.
Wie schon Christo geht es auch JR weniger um das Objekt selbst als um die Veränderung des Blicks auf die Stadt. Für das Innere der bis zum 28. Juni geöffneten Höhle hat der ehemalige Daft-Punk-Musiker Thomas Bangalter eine Klanglandschaft gestaltet.
