On Tuesday, the subway will reopen at Vjesnik.

Starting Tuesday morning, traffic will once again be able to pass through the underpass near the Vjesnik building on Slavonska Avenue in Zagreb. The temporary traffic regulation imposed over the past 12 days will be removed during the night, with the underpass expected to reopen around 3 AM. Workers from the City of Zagreb began removing the temporary traffic measures around midnight. The delay in construction was caused by a malfunctioning excavator involved in demolishing part of the Vjesnik skyscraper. According to estimates from the construction site, removing the signage and preparing the

Work on the overpass reconstruction began on Sunday, and Monday was the first test for the new traffic regulations

The news that the overpass in Ljudevit Posavski Street would be closed for two and a half months caused unease among many residents of Sesvet. Neighborhood groups discussed the possible traffic collapse, citizens feared that the eastern part of Zagreb would remain cut off, and warnings of chaos came from local politics whose officials also announced possible protests.

Work on the reconstruction of the overpass began on Sunday, and Monday was the first test for the new traffic regulation. According to the impressions of the Zagreb citizens we spoke to, most of the traffic was redirected to the roundabout directions, so the scenario with the kilometric columns has not yet been realized. Although we were all convinced that chaos would start on Monday, the opposite happened.

She adds that the first day of work showed that the citizens had prepared in advance for the new traffic situation. It seems that the city authorities have made a very good move by closing the overpass, now whether it is accidental or intentional, I do not know, but in any case Monday went without problems she points out. A similar experience has Sara, who travels to work every day from Sesvetsky Kingdom to the city center. We expected big traffic through the center of Sesvet, which is also busy at night, but after nine hours the road was almost empty. I heard that there was a little more traffic in the morning rush hour, but obviously people adapted and took the right roads.

Alternative routes, he adds, are not unknown to Sesvet residents. We use them even when there are regular morning traffic jams so it is already known which roads can avoid a traffic jam. It is only the first day so we will see how everything will look through the summer, but I believe it will be fine. The most important thing is that the works are finished on time. If it is delayed after the beginning of the school year and the return of people from the annual holidays, then the situation could be much more complicated he believes.

According to the findings of the IGH Institute from 2020, damages were found on the overpass that over time reduce the durability of the structure and increase the risk of loss of functionality of individual parts of the facility. During the reconstruction, the upper and lower part of the structure will be renovated, the damaged layers of concrete will be injected, corridors and pedestrian corridors will be restored, and concrete barriers and protective surfaces have been removed on the overpass to prevent further damage and prolong the work.

Everyone who passes through this part of the city sees the state of the fence, and believe me, the overpass is also in very bad condition. This is shown by the expert elaborations that we presented. We can no longer wait to restore the infrastructure said last week the head of the City Office for Local Self-Government, Traffic, Civil Protection and Security Andro Pavuna. He added that the start of work was deliberately planned during the summer months, when traffic is somewhat weaker, so that the most demanding interventions would be completed before the start of the new school year.

In addition to the rehabilitation of the structure, the intersection with Zagrebska cesta will also be reconstructed during the works, where an additional lane will be built for the left turn from Ljudevit Posavski Street. The City expects that after the completion of the works it will increase the flow of traffic and reduce congestion at one of the most congested traffic points in Sesvet.
