V Švici poteka referendum, s katerim želijo pobudniki omejiti število prebivalcev na 10 milijonov.

V Švici ta konec tedna poteka referendum o radikalni pobudi desničarske Švicarske ljudske stranke, ki predlaga, da se stalno prebivalstvo države do leta 2050 omeji na največ deset milijonov ljudi. Nasprotniki referenduma opozarjajo na katastrofalne posledice v primeru, da glasovanje uspe.
Pobuda vnaša veliko negotovost v sicer stabilno politično in gospodarsko okolje alpske države, ki trenutno šteje 9,1 milijona prebivalcev, od tega pa jih 27 odstotkov nima švicarskega državljanstva.
Referendumska pobuda predvideva, da bi morala vlada sprejeti stroge omejitve pri azilni politiki in združevanju družin v primeru, da število prebivalcev Švice doseže 9,5 milijona pred letom 2050.
Če pa bi do takrat število rezidentov že doseglo 10 milijonov, bi se morala Švica odpovedati sporazumu o prostem gibanju oseb z Evropsko unijo, ki ga pobudniki referenduma vidijo kot enega glavnih krivcev za hitro naraščanje števila prebivalcev v zadnjih 20 letih. Statistični podatki kažejo, da število novih rezidentov raste hitreje od števila državljanov, predlagatelji pa trdijo, da je Švica pri dovoljenjih tujcem v zadnjih letih dala prednost kvantiteti, ne kvaliteti. Po mnenju predlagateljev to postavlja švicarski sistem stanovanj, zdravstva in drugih javnih storitev pod velikanske pritiske in uničujejo 'švicarski način življenja'.
Nasprotniki svarijo pred izolacijo
Nasprotniki pobude, med katerimi so poleg vlade in večine v parlamentu tudi sindikati ter vplivna gospodarska združenja kot sta Economiesuisse in korporacije Nestlé in UBS, opozarjajo na nepredvidljive posledice takšne izolacije. Po njihovem bi uspeh predlagateljev resno ogrozil gospodarsko blaginjo in dostop Švice do evropskega trga.
Gospodarski analitiki poudarjajo, da bi omejevanje priseljevanja poslabšalo pomanjkanje delovne sile v državi s hitro starajočim se prebivalstvom, kjer se delež starejših od 65 let nenehno povečuje, poroča The Guardian.

Čeprav so bile javnomnenjske raziskave še pred nekaj tedni povsem izenačene, najnovejši podatki kažejo, da se je tehtnica v zadnjih dneh nagnila v prid nasprotnikom pobude, saj se večina volivcev nagiba k zavrnitvi predloga. Končna odločitev bo znana v nedeljo popoldne.
Za uspeh pobude je poleg večine glasov na nacionalni ravni potrebna tudi podpora večine švicarskih kantonov. Večina Švicarjev sicer na referendumih, ki so v državi zelo pogosta oblika demokracije, glasuje po pošti.
