Scandal of the Parisian preschooler: in the middle of the Lyhanna case, Emmanuel Gregory comes out of the woods

The mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, has announced the creation of an independent investigation committee following increased public scrutiny over sexual abuse cases involving school staff. The scandal, which gained more attention after the Lyhanna case, has led to the suspension of several animators. Grégoire also revised his initial communication strategy regarding child protection measures, including a controversial 'citizen convention' on children's schedules.

En marge d’une visite dans une école parisienne, le maire de la capitale a communiqué sur le nombre d’animateurs suspendus en avril et juin. Il a aussi confirmé le lancement d’une «  commission d’enquête indépendante » confiée à un ancien juge des enfants. Elle aura « carte blanche »

La mairie de Paris est sur le gril. Deux mois après avoir annoncé, au lendemain de son élection à sa tête, un  plan d’action contre les violences faites aux enfants, Emmanuel Grégoire revoit sa communication. Car l’affaire Lyhanna a donné davantage d’ampleur au scandale des agressions sexuelles par des animateurs du périscolaire parisien, révélé depuis l’automne dernier. Il faut dire aussi que la « convention citoyenne » chargée de réfléchir aux rythmes de l’enfant, présentée comme la principale mesure de ce plan d’action, apparaissait comme lunaire, pour ne pas dire déplacée, au vu du sujet. Alors que ses premières annonces avaient laissé les collectifs de parents a minima dubitatifs et que l’opposition de droite réclamait depuis mars une mission d’information et d’évaluation, l’élu socialiste change de braquet. Au programme : la transparence, promet-il. Le premier pas vers une forme de mea-culpa ?
