Regulation of fuel prices extended until mid-December

The Slovenian government has decided to extend the regulation of fuel prices for an additional six months, keeping the current system in place until mid-December. The pricing mechanism for 95-octane gasoline, diesel, and heating oil at service stations outside highways and expressways will continue under the state model, which considers global oil market trends and the exchange rate between the US dollar and the euro. Prices will now be calculated weekly, replacing the previous 14-day model introduced in March. The update also includes changes in the calculation of costs, such as adjustments ̶

While the price of gasoline will remain the same, diesel drivers will have to charge more, and fuel oil will also go up.

Read the following:

A litre of petrol will continue to cost €1,592.

A litre of diesel was priced at €1,685 before, but as of midnight it will be priced at €1,718.

A litre of fuel oil, which used to cost €1,312, will cost €1,318 from midnight.

The maximum permitted retail prices for petrol, diesel and fuel oil will be EUR 1,592 per litre of petrol, EUR 1,718 per litre of diesel fuel and EUR 1,318 per litre of fuel oil from tomorrow, 16 June 2026 to Monday 22 June 2026 inclusive, the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning announced.

Gasoline

For a litre of NMB 95, with the excise duty reduced to EUR 0,41759/litre (excise duty before the change EUR 0,42625/litre) at petrol stations outside motorways and expressways, it will be necessary to pay EUR 1,592/litre, for 50 litres this amounts to EUR 79,60. "If the prices of NMB 95 were not regulated, according to our estimates, for litres of NMB 95, it would be necessary to deduct about EUR 1,696 per litre", the Ministry announced.

Not less than € 5

A litre of diesel, with an excise duty set at EUR 0,33000/litre at petrol stations outside motorways and expressways, will amount to EUR 1,718/litre in the new period (price before the change of EUR 1,685 per litre), which amounts to EUR 85,90 for 50 litres. "If diesel prices were not regulated, we estimate that a litre of diesel would require a deduction of around EUR 1,822 per litre", the ministry said.

Fuel oil

For a litre of fuel oil, with an excise duty set at EUR 0,07875/litre, it will be necessary to pay EUR 1,318 per litre in the following period (the price of fuel oil before the change of EUR 1,312 per litre). For the ordered quantity of 1000 litres of fuel oil, the consumer will thus pay EUR 1,318 (excluding transport). 'If fuel oil prices were not regulated, we estimate that it would be necessary to deduct around EUR 1,422 per litre,' the ministry said. The consumer would pay EUR 1422 for the purchase of 1000 litres, which means that with a 1000-litre tank the consumer saves EUR 104.

Margins remain under government restriction

In accordance with the Governmental Regulation on the Formulation of Prices of Certain Petroleum Derivatives (PISRS), the margins of traders are limited and can be up to EUR 0,1150 per litre for diesel fuel and EUR 0,1150 per litre for NMB-95 and up to EUR 0,1150 per litre for fuel oil.

'The prices of these petroleum derivatives will continue to be calculated on the basis of a methodology based on the movement of petroleum derivatives prices on the world market and the movement of the US dollar-euro exchange rate,' the ministry said.

This Decision shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
