Na část Moskvy pršely černé kapky ropy poté, co byla zasažena rafinérie během největšího ukrajinského útoku od začátku plnohodnotné ruské invaze na Ukrajinu. Obyvatelé Moskvy sdělili BBC, že jemný déšť zanechal na jejich oblečení černé skvrny. Úřady padání jakéhokoliv „ropného deště“ popřely, ale oficiální telegramový kanál města obyvatele postižené čtvrti varoval, aby neotevírali okna. Silo, ze kterého po explozi vyletělo víko, podle médií i ruských proválečných blogerů zřejmě trefila raketa ruské protivzdušné obrany.
Na Moskvu podle BBC směřovalo téměř dvě stě dronů. Podle ruského ministerstva obrany bylo během 24 hodin po celé zemi zachyceno a zničeno téměř tisíc dronů a čtyři ukrajinské řízené střely. V jižní Rostovské oblasti byl zasažen ropný sklad, přičemž jedna osoba přišla o život.
Ukrajinský prezident Volodymyr Zelenskyj uvedl, že útok dronů byl odpovědí na nedávný ruský útok na Kyjev, při kterém vzplanula významná náboženská památka, klášter Kyjevskopečerská lávra. „Tuto válku nechceme a nikdy jsme ji nechtěli,“ řekl Zelenskyj. „Ale pokud shoří Ukrajina, shoří i vaše Moskva,“ varoval ukrajinský prezident režim ruského autoritáře Vladimira Putina.

Několik videozáznamů zachytilo obzvláště dramatický okamžik, kdy obrovský výbuch odtrhl vrchol velkého sila a odhodil střechu ropného zásobníku desítky metrů do vzduchu.
Podle nezávislých ruskojazyčných médií explozi zřejmě nezpůsobil ukrajinský dron, ale střela z ruského systému protivzdušné obrany. Na záběrech, které se rozšířily po sociálních sítích, je vidět, jak střela letí pod dronem a zanechává za sebou kondenzační stopu a dopadá přímo na nádrž, z níž odlétne kryt.
Ruský proválečný telegramový kanál Vojennyj Osvědomitěl uvedl , že video je pravé a že ho pořídili čínští turisté. Úlomky dronů dopadly také na nedaleké nákupní centrum
V plamenech se tak ocitlo také nákupní centrum nedaleko rafinerie, údajně poté, co na budovu dopadly úlomky dronu. Na videu ověřeném BBC je vidět, jak dron naráží do horních pater výškové budovy, přičemž sklo a trosky prší po její fasádě a dolů na nádvoří pod ní.
Na dalším ověřeném videu je vidět hustý, tmavý, olejovitý povlak pokrývající asfalt parkoviště, zatímco zem pod zaparkovanými vozidly zůstává čistá. „Jakmile jsem vyšla z bytového domu, padal jemný, lehký déšť,“ řekla BBC jedna místní žena. Všimla si „nepříjemných černých skvrn“ na svém oblečení a i bunda její kamarádky „byla nakonec pokrytá černými tečkami“, dodala. „Teď budeme sledovat, jestli nám kvůli ropným produktům nezačnou vypadávat vlasy,“ obává se.
Kvůli útoku byla dočasně uzavřena čtyři moskevská letiště a více než pět set letů bylo zrušeno nebo zpožděno.
Cílem Ukrajiny je přinést Rusům „válku domů“
Ačkoli místní úřady po celém Rusku zakázaly zveřejňování záběrů následků útoku dronů, na sociálních sítích se objevily desítky videí, na nichž jsou vidět drony letící po obloze za bílého dne a výbuchy nad průmyslovými oblastmi na předměstí Moskvy.
Ukrajina podle BBC běžně využívá taktiku, při níž před zahájením hlavních leteckých útoků vysílá velké množství průzkumných dronů sloužících jako návnada, aby zmapovala hustotu protivzdušné obrany a zranitelná místa.
Čtyři a půl roku poté, co Moskva zahájila plnohodnotnou invazi na Ukrajinu, vyčerpávající válka na ukrajinské frontě pokračuje dál, mimo dohled mnoha lidí v Rusku.
