Prema navodima iz početne vojne istrage, američka vojska je 28. februara greškom pogodila iransku osnovnu školu Shajareh Tayyiba u gradu Minab, vjerovatno zbog zastarjelih informacija o obližnjoj pomorskoj bazi.

Napad se dogodio dok su američke snage izvodile udare na susjedni objekt Korpusa garde islamske revolucije, odnosno IRGC-a.

Državni mediji u Iranu objavili su da je u napadu poginulo najmanje 168 djece i 14 nastavnika. Detalji istrage i eventualne odgovornosti unutar američke administracije za sada nisu saopćeni.
