Las conversaciones previstas entre EEUU e Irán este viernes en Suiza han sido canceladas abruptamente. Una vez firmado el acuerdo de paz por los presidentes de ambos países, Washington y Teherán iban a comenzar a tratar el desarrollo técnico del memorando. Sin embargo, la Casa Blanca ha informado esta noche que no ha salido el vicepresidente JD Vance de viaje al encuentro, justificando la demora en problemas logísticos, mientras el Ejército israelí continúa su ofensiva en el Líbano, atacando infraestructuras de la milicia chií Hizbulá.
El Gobierno suizo confirmó este viernes que la reunión prevista entre Estados Unidos, Irán y los dos mediadores en las negociaciones para un cese de las hostilidades, Catar y Pakistán, se ha pospuesto. El encuentro estaba previsto para este viernes en la localidad alpina de Bürgenstock, donde ya se había desplegado un dispositivo de seguridad en previsión de la llegada de las delegaciones.
La Casa Blanca informó a la prensa que la logística de este tipo de negociaciones “nunca ha sido sencilla ni predecible” y evitó confirmar una nueva fecha de salida, al tiempo que aseguró que informará cuando haya actualizaciones concretas sobre los próximos pasos del proceso. Según informa The Guardian, la cancelación ha sido tan repentina que el personal de JD Vance y un grupo de periodistas ya se encontraban en el aeródromo para partir hacia Suiza.
En una comparecencia previa, Vance había indicado que existía la posibilidad de viajar este fin de semana a Suiza para participar en el inicio de las conversaciones técnicas con Irán, en el marco de un proceso aún en fase de organización.
“Nuestro plan es ir a Suiza; no sé exactamente cuándo. La forma en que estamos organizando esta negociación técnica implica, obviamente, la participación de los líderes políticos (de ambos países)”, añadió el vicepresidente sobre un diálogo que se presupone complicado.
Vance aseguró que también habrá “personal sobre el terreno que impulse directamente las conversaciones técnicas y las conversaciones sobre el tema nuclear, es decir, cómo destruir el uranio altamente enriquecido y todos esos detalles prácticos que requieren un análisis a fondo”.
En el memorando de entendimiento ya firmado por EE.UU. e Irán se dan a partir de hoy un plazo de 60 días para negociar un acuerdo de paz definitivo, que deberá ser ratificado mediante una resolución vinculante del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU.
Suiza confía en que se retome la cita
El Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de Suiza indició que, pese a este revés, “los trabajos preparatorios pertinentes en Bürgenstock continúan” y que mantiene toda su disposición a facilitar las conversaciones.
Periodistas de varios medios internacionales habían llegado -ahora se sabe que en vano- para intentar cubrir el evento a pesar de que las autoridades habían indicado que no se preveía acceso para la prensa.
Conforme a las indicaciones recibidas, las autoridades suizas habían puesto en marcha un plan para garantizar la seguridad de los negociadores y mediadores en Bürgenstock, un apartado 'resort' de montaña ubicado en lo alto del lago de Lucerna y que incluye dos lujosos hoteles y residencias, así como un espacio termal con impresionantes vistas al lago y a los Alpes.
El lugar, además de su carácter exclusivo, presenta una singular ventaja en términos de seguridad: su acceso puede quedar completamente bloqueado si se corta la única carretera que conduce hasta él y se interrumpe el servicio del histórico teleférico que lo conecta con la orilla del lago de Lucerna, situada 500 metros más abajo.
La policía cantonal ya había hecho ambas cosas: colocado un puesto de control para filtrar las entradas e impedir el paso de cualquiera que no estuviese hospedado en Bürgenstock o de más efectivos de seguridad, y se había anunciado que el teleférico se encontraba cerrado desde este miércoles por la noche hasta el lunes próximo.
En este complejo turístico se realizó en 2024 la Cumbre de Paz para Ucrania, a la que asistieron numerosos jefes de gobierno y delegaciones de 92 países en un esfuerzo por avanzar en la reflexión sobre su reconstrucción una vez terminada la guerra con Rusia.
Israel mantiene ataques en Líbano
El Ejército israelí ha confirmado en un breve comunicado este viernes que continúa atacando en diversas zonas del sur del Líbano. Según la Agencia Nacional de Noticias (ANN) libanesa, al menos 18 personas han muerto y 33 ha quedado heridas en ataques israelíes lanzados este viernes contra dos zonas del sur del país vecino, en una violación de los términos memorando de entendimiento alcanzado entre Irán y Estados Unidos para el cese de las hostilidades que entró en vigor inmediatamente tras su rúbrica la madrugada del jueves, y que extiende el cese de hostilidades al Líbano.
