St. Pölten: kitchen fire due to heated oil on stove

A 16-year-old and a 49-year-old were hospitalized with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning after a fat fire broke out in an apartment in St. Pölten. According to police, the teenager had heated oil in a pot on an electric stove and then left the kitchen. A neighbor noticed smoke and called emergency services. The fire department extinguished the fire, but the extent of the damage was not immediately known.

Ein 16-Jähriger und eine 49-Jährige sind nach einem Fettbrand am Mittwochabend in einer Wohnung in St. Pölten mit Verdacht auf Rauchgasvergiftung ins Krankenhaus gebracht worden.

Der Jugendliche soll Öl in einem Topf auf dem E-Herd erhitzt und anschließend die Küche verlassen haben, teilte die Polizei am Donnerstag zur Ursache für das Feuer mit. Ein Nachbar bemerkte Rauchgeruch und wählte den Notruf.

Die Feuerwehr löschte den Brand. Die Schadenshöhe war vorerst nicht bekannt.
