Activity registered after three years: Senapred keeps green alert in Chillán's Nevados Volcanic Complex

The National Service of Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred) has maintained a green technical alert for the Nevados de Chillán Volcanic Complex after it showed activity for the first time in three years. According to the Southern Andean Volcano Observatory (OVDAS) of the National Geological and Mining Service (Sernageomin), two plumes of volcanic material were recorded at heights of 120 meters and 80 meters respectively, both heading southeast from the volcano. Sernageomin continues with permanent monitoring of the volcano.

“De acuerdo con la información proporcionada por el Observatorio Volcánico de los Andes del Sur (OVDAS) del Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (Sernageomin), el Complejo Volcánico Nevados de Chillán mantiene la alerta técnica en nivel verde”, mencionaron desde Senapred.

En relación con el Reporte Especial de Actividad Volcánica (REAV) emitido a las 08.20 horas de hoy lunes 15 de junio, se informa que a las 07.20 y a las 07.55 horas de hoy, las estaciones de monitoreo instaladas en las inmediaciones del Complejo Volcánico Nevados de Chillán registraron la ocurrencia de dos eventos de emisiones de material piroclástico.

El primero fue una columna que registró una altura de 120 metros, y se dirigió al sureste del volcán. El segundo tuvo una altura de 80 metros con la misma dirección que el anterior.

“Por su parte, Sernageomin continuará con la vigilancia permanente del volcán, y la Dirección Regional de Senapred, mantendrá las coordinaciones con los integrantes del Sistema Regional de Prevención y Respuesta ante Desastres para alertar oportunamente y dar adecuada respuesta ante eventuales situaciones de emergencia producto de la condición volcánica”, sentenciaron desde Senapred.
