SHOA discards tsunami probability after 5.0 earthquake in the Pacific near Robinson Crusoe Island

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Robinson Crusoe Island. The National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (Senapred) reported the quake's location. The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) evaluated potential risks and stated that the characteristics of the earthquake do not meet the conditions necessary to generate a tsunami along the coasts of Chile.

Temblor hoy, domingo 14 de junio en Chile: consulta epicentro y magnitud Comentarios Durante la presente jornada, se han registrado sismos de variada intensidad en distintos lugares del país.

No obstante, la mayoría de los movimientos resultan imperceptibles, debido a que Chile se encuentra ubicado en el límite de las placas tectónicas de Nazca y Sudamericana, cuyos movimientos producen vibraciones de parte de la corteza terrestre.

Por motivos de seguridad, resulta relevante mantenerse informado sobre los recientes temblores que se registran en el país, una labor que desarrolla el Centro Sismológico Nacional de la Universidad de Chile.

Temblor hoy, domingo 14 de junio en Chile

Estos son los sismos informados por Sismología :

Sismo de magnitud 3.0 , ocurrido a 65 km al sudeste de Socaire y a 226 km de profundidad.

08:07 horas

Sismo de magnitud 3.4 , ocurrido a 30 km al sur de Mina Collahuasi y a 128 km de profundidad.

08:03 horas

Sismo de magnitud 3.2, ocurrido a 43 km al sudoeste de Mina Collahuasi y a 116 km de profundidad.

04:56 horas

Sismo de magnitud 3.3 , ocurrido a 58 km al noroeste de Carrizal Bajo y a 20 km de profundidad.

03:27 horas

Sismo de magnitud 3.7 , ocurrido a 91 km al oeste de San Antonio de los Cobres y a 167 km de profundidad.

01:10 horas

Sismo de magnitud 3.1 , ocurrido a 52 km al este de Sierra Gorda y a 90 km de profundidad.

Qué hacer en caso de un sismo

El Servicio Nacional de Prevención y Respuesta ante Desastres ( Senapred ) entregó algunas recomendaciones sobre cómo actuar ante un movimiento sísmico de importancia.

Estas son las sugerencias entregadas por Senapred:

Mantener la calma y buscar un lugar de protección sísmica.

Protegerse debajo de un elemento firme. Si no es posible, mantenerse al lado del mismo objeto.

Cortar la energía eléctrica y cerrar las llaves de paso de agua y gas.

Si se está en la calle, alejarse de edificios, postes y cables eléctricos.

En caso de estar en un evento masivo, la persona debe quedarse en el lugar y proteger la cabeza y cuello con los brazos. Además, también tendrá que seguir las indicaciones de los encargados de seguridad del recinto.

Si se está manejando en un túnel, puente o autopista, se debe reducir la velocidad y detenerse tras salir del lugar
