Portugal conquers four medals at the World Championships for athletes with Down syndrome

Portugal won four medals at the World Championships for athletes with Down syndrome. Beatriz Bastos won gold in triathlon (mosaic) after setting a new European record in shot put. Maria Vicente earned bronze in triathlon (T21). Isabela Santos secured bronze in the 800 meters (T21). The Portuguese relay team also took bronze in the 4x100 meters. Additional notable performances included João Machado finishing fourth and Nélson Silva placing 11th in men’s triathlon (T21). The Portuguese team concluded their participation in the championships held in Bulgaria.

Na competição organizada pela Associação Internacional de Atletismo para Pessoas com Síndrome de Down (IAADS), Beatriz Bastos sagrou-se campeã do mundo de triatlo (mosaico) horas depois de, no lançamento do peso, ter estabelecido um novo recorde da Europa, a 6,12 metros.

Ainda no triatlo (T21), Maria Vicente conquistou a medalha de bronze, reforçando assim a presença lusa no pódio.

Já nos 800 metros (T21), Isabela Santos, recordista europeia da distância, garantiu a terceira medalha portuguesa, neste caso a de bronze.

Finalmente, a estafeta 4x100 metros, composta por João Machado, Vasco Avelino, Nélson Silva e Luís Gonçalves, terminou na terceira posição, assegurando um novo bronze.

Desempenho igualmente de destaque para o triatlo masculino (T21), com João Machado a ser quarto e Nélson Silva 11.º.

A seleção portuguesa encerra a sua participação nos Mundiais disputados na capital búlgara na quinta-feira.
