Президентът на България Илияна Йотова откри официално световното първенство за спортисти със синдром на Даун, което стартира в София. Тя пожела успех на всички "слънчеви" състезатели, които ще си оспорват титлите.
Близо 400 спортисти от 27 държави ще се включат в надпреварата, която се провежда под патронажа на държавния глава и продължава до 19 юни.
България ще бъде представена от 20 състезатели във всички пет дисциплини – лека атлетика, спортна гимнастика, художествена гимнастика, тенис и тенис на маса.
На откриването присъства и спортния министър Енчо Керязов, а в шествието се включи и кметът на София Васил Терзиев.
"Добре дошли в София, която от утре, от тази вечер дори, ще бъде столицата на усмивката, на смелостта, на куража и на необятните човешки възможности. Това го дължим изцяло на вас. Изключително сме горди, че нашият хубав булевард "Витоша" беше днес свидетел на нещо невероятно. Един поход на мира, поход на възможностите на децата, поход, в който хиляди българи можаха да ви видят, да ви стискат палци, да ви пожелаят много успехи и много медали. Това е не само състезание - това е триумф на духа - над изолацията, над предразсъдъците и над самотата", каза президентът Илияна Йотова.
Състезанията се организират от Федерацията за адаптивна физическа активност в България, подпомагана от всички други централи по отделните спортове.
Имам личен път с част от българските деца и младежи със синдром на Даун. Бил съм с тях в моментите на притеснение, в усмивките, в усилието, в огромното желание да покажат на света кои са. Бил съм с тях, когато накарахме най-голямата зала в България, препълнена с 15 000 души, да остане вцепенена – не от това какво могат тези деца, а от това какво все още ние не можем. Тези млади хора не искат съжаление. Те искат шанс. И когато им бъде даден, те дават много повече любов, сила и човечност, отколкото повечето хора очакват. Това каза министърът на младежта и спорта Енчо Керязов по време на официалното откриване на Световното първенство за атлети със синдром на Даун в София.
"Гледайте внимателно състезанията – там ще видите неща, за които досега може би сме се сблъсквали с ограничения. Скъпи спортисти, благодаря ви, че сте тук. Благодаря ви, че ни напомняте кое е истински важно", каза още министър Керязов.
