KADA je Jared Kushner, zet Donalda Trumpa, odlučio investirati u luksuzni turistički kompleks na idiličnoj južnoj obali Albanije, vjerojatno nije računao da će time potaknuti nacionalni ustanak. No pokazalo se da Albanci nisu oduševljeni idejom da bogati strani ulagači betoniraju njihova prirodna bogatstva kako bi gradili hotele za bogate strane turiste.

Predloženo odmaralište s 10.000 kreveta u blizini zaštićenog područja, doma plamenaca, kornjača i jedne od najočuvanijih riječnih delta u Europi, izazvalo je možda i najveće narodne prosvjede otkako je ta mala balkanska država prije više od tri desetljeća napustila komunizam, piše  Politico .

U samo dva tjedna "revolucija plamenaca", kako je postala poznata, prerasla je iz ekološkog prosvjeda u nacionalnu kampanju protiv cijele albanske vladajuće klase. Godine percepcije o korupciji, stihijskom turizmu, frustracije gospodarskim razvojem jedne od najsiromašnijih europskih zemalja i osjećaj da se državom upravlja u interesu malobrojnih bogataša, a ne građana, doveli su mnoge Albance do ruba strpljenja.

Prosvjednici sada traže ostavku, pa čak i zatvaranje premijera Edija Rame te oporbenog čelnika i bivšeg premijera Salija Berishe, dvojice najdugovječnijih političkih lidera od pada komunističkog režima 1991. godine.

"Mladi i građani ovdje ne prosvjeduju samo protiv Rame i Berishe, nego protiv cijelog sustava", rekla je Françeska Muço, aktivistica civilnog društva koja se pridružila prosvjedima u Tirani, mašući transparentom s plamencom i pozivajući na zatvaranje obojice političara.

"Ovo je prosvjed protiv kompletnog sustava uspostavljenog nakon pada diktature i svih negativnih modela koje su normalizirali u ovoj zemlji", dodala je.

Albanski biolog Olsi Nika, koji je vodio kampanju za proglašenje rijeke Vjose nacionalnim parkom, kaže da je bijes prosvjednika puno dublji od ljutnje na strane investitore. "Ovdje se ne radi o protivljenju Jaredu Kushneru", rekao je, dodajući da Albanija ima dugu povijest zanemarivanja ekoloških standarda i raširene političke korupcije.

Sam Rama bio je izrazito nepopustljiv. Za Politico je rekao da su strani ulagači u nekretnine poput Kushnera važniji za Albaniju od njezinih vlastitih građana.

"Stranci su prvi prioritet... jer stranci donose novac u zemlju za Albance", rekao je Rama, bivši profesionalni košarkaš, u intervjuu početkom lipnja. U istom je razgovoru ustvrdio da se strani mediji za priču zanimaju samo zbog Kushnerove uključenosti. "Da nije Jareda, ne bi ih bilo briga što se događa u Albaniji", rekao je.

Ramini provokativni komentari, izrečeni dok su prosvjedi već zahvaćali zemlju, nisu smanjili napetosti.

"Ako je to otvoreno rekao, to je jedan od razloga zašto prosvjedujemo", rekao je Redi Muçi, oporbeni zastupnik iz lijeve stranke Lëvizja Bashkë. "Albanija je postala nepodnošljiva zemlja za Albance", dodao je, navodeći rast troškova života, širenje Airbnba u Tirani i odmarališta duž obale.

Resort usred jednog od najvrjednijih područja Albanije

Vlora na južnoj obali Albanije epicentar je turističkog buma za posjetitelje koji traže sunce i more po nižim cijenama nego u Grčkoj. No obala sjeverno od grada još je velikim dijelom netaknuta. Plamenci borave u plićacima, kornjače se gnijezde u pijesku, a tuljani se i dalje pojavljuju duž tog divljeg dijela obale.

Zaštićeno područje Pishë Poro-Narta dio je delte rijeke Vjose, koju često nazivaju posljednjom divljom rijekom Europe. Upravo ondje planirano je luksuzno odmaralište vrijedno 1.4 milijarde eura, koje bi u jedno od biološki najbogatijih područja Albanije urezalo novi "grad" s 10.000 kreveta.

Iako je projekt postao sinonim za Kushnera i njegovu suprugu Ivanku, kćer američkog predsjednika Donalda Trumpa, neka novija izvješća sugeriraju da se Kushnerova investicijska grupa Affinity Partners povukla iz projekta. Iz Affinityja nisu odgovorili na upite Politica, a pokušaji izravnog kontakta s Kushnerom bili su neuspješni.

U središtu spora je činjenica da su radovi na odmaralištu odobreni bez procjene utjecaja na okoliš. Na terenu se već vide cesta, policijske patrole i betonski temelji uklonjenih ograda.

"Imamo gnijezdo kornjača iz ove godine koje su uništili strojevi. Udaljeno je samo kilometar odavde", rekao je zaštitar prirode Konstandin Xhaho, stojeći na litici s pogledom na zaštićeno područje Vjosa-Narta.

Krajem svibnja zaštitar je vukao jednog prosvjednika preko iste litice dok su mještani i aktivisti zahtijevali uklanjanje ograda. Takve scene samo su pojačale nemire.

Deseci tisuća Albanaca izašli su na ulice. Prosvjedi u Tirani ušli su u treći tjedan, a slične demonstracije održavaju se u Skadru, Draču, Lezhi i Gjirokasteru. Albanci u SAD-u, Kanadi, Francuskoj, Njemačkoj, Grčkoj, Italiji i Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu također su organizirali prosvjede.
