Poland arrests new suspect in Russian artist murder case

The Polish police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Semjon Skrepetski, a Russian performance artist known for criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. De Poolse politie heeft een verdachte gearresteerd voor de moord op een Russische performancekunstenaar. De Poetin-kritische Semjon Skrepetski werd maandagochtend doodgeschoten in het oosten van Polen.

De Poolse premier Tusk schrijft op op X (opent in nieuw venster) dat de verdachte een Georgisch paspoort gebruikte. Hij zegt dat de autoriteiten zijn identiteit proberen te achterhalen.

Kritiek en bespotten van Poetin

De 44-jarige Skrepetski (wiens echte naam Robert Kouzovkov is) woonde in het Poolse stadje Biala Podlaska, dichtbij de grens met Belarus. Hij emigreerde in 2012 vanuit Rusland naar Polen en reisde door Europa als performancekunstenaar.

Skrepetski stond bekend om hoe hij de spot dreef met de Russische president Poetin en de Belarussische president Loekasjenko. Ook uitte hij kritiek op de oorlog tegen Oekraïne.

Vorige week vrijdag, op de Russische feestdag Dag van Rusland, protesteerde Skrepetski voor de Russische ambassade in Berlijn. Daarbij trok hij de Russische vlag uit zijn broek om deze vervolgens in een vuilnisbak te gooien.

Hij liep ook rond met een schilderij met Sovjetdictator Stalin en Poetin als baby, dat is hieronder te zien.

Skrepetski werd bedreigd vanwege de actie. Dat schreef hij maandagochtend op zijn Telegram (opent in nieuw venster) -kanaal. Hij deelde een greep uit de reacties die hij had ontvangen op sociale media. "Je vinden is een kwestie van zes seconden", was een van die reacties.
