Exhibitions of passports: Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Austrian Foreign Ministry has initiated further investigations and filed a report with the federal anti-corruption agency following irregularities discovered in passport issuance at the embassy in London. The irregularities were found during an extraordinary review and affected passport issuances between 2022 and 2024. Previous checks had not revealed any other unlawful passport issuances. The FPÖ’s general secretary called for immediate clarification.

Bei der Ausstellung österreichischer Reisepässe hat die Botschaft in London Unregelmäßigkeiten festgestellt. Das Außenministerium leitete daraufhin „umgehend“ weitere Überprüfungen ein und erstattete Anzeige beim Bundesamt zur Korruptionsprävention und Korruptionsbekämpfung (BAK), wie die Behörde heute mitteilte. Betroffen seien Passausstellungen in den Jahren 2022 bis 2024.

Die Unregelmäßigkeiten seien im Zuge einer außerordentlichen Überprüfung entdeckt worden. Frühere Überprüfungen hätten keinerlei Hinweise auf weitere unrechtmäßige Passausstellungen ergeben. Kontrollen an weiteren österreichischen Vertretungsbehörden förderten laut Außenministerium bisher ebenso keine weiteren Verdachtsfälle zutage.

FPÖ-Generalsekretär Michael Schnedlitz forderte per Aussendung von Außenministerin Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS) „umgehende Aufklärung“.
