Két nappal azután, hogy a Fidesz kongresszusa újabb egy évre megerősítette pártelnöki posztján, Orbán Viktor exkluzív interjút adott az Indexnek. Annak a lapnak, amelyet korábban úgy jellemzett , hogy a „jobbközép, mérsékeltebb sajtó” része, amely ugyan ellenzékbe került, és „polgári, kritikus médiavilágnak néz ki, de még keresi a hangját”.
A Kibeszélő című műsor közel egyórás beszélgetésében Orbán egyszerre értékelte a Fidesz választási vereségét, beszélt saját politikai jövőjéről, és arról is, hogy szerinte az új kormány „megkezdte az ország kifosztását”. Orbán a Fidesz történetének legsúlyosabb választási vereségét is értékelte. Lényegében elfogadta, hogy pártja lemaradt a politikai versenyben, de nem a korábbi kormányzás vagy a Fidesz politikája miatt.

Úgy látja, a 2026-os választás újdonsága a digitális mozgósítás volt, amiben a Fidesz lemaradt. „Az ellenfél az újítások tekintetében előrébb jár, mint mi” – mondta, és hozzátette, hogy ezt a hátrányt az elmúlt két hónapban sem sikerült ledolgozni.
A digitális vereséget számszerűsíteni is próbálta. Elmondása szerint a TikTokról tájékozódók körében 70–19-re, a Facebook-felhasználók között pedig 66 százalékos arányban maradtak alul. Ezért nevezte a kongresszusi beszédében is „katasztrofálisnak” a Fidesz teljesítményét a digitális térben, mind technológiai, mind tartalomgyártási szempontból.
