EU: Ukraine and Moldova open their first cluster of negotiations

Ukraine and Moldova have begun accession negotiations with the European Union, marking the opening of the first and most important negotiation cluster. This follows long-standing opposition from Hungary's former government under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The EU enlargement commissioner Marta Kós emphasized that no other country has made such progress in the accession process while simultaneously fighting against the most brutal Russian crimes on their territory. The previous blocking by Orbán was highlighted through a reference to an incident in December 2023 where he was asked to leave the

Magyar napravio potpuno zaokret

Magyar slapped Zelensky: Four key words for Ukraine were thrown out because of him

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar confirmed that he requested the removal of the phrase 'as soon as possible' from the EU declaration regarding Ukraine's accession process. The European Union had opened the first cluster of requirements for Ukraine and Moldavia to join the bloc, with five more clusters expected to be announced by July. In the final declaration, the phrase 'as soon as possible' was omitted, according to Kyiv Independent. Magyar stated that his initiative led to significant changes in the text, emphasizing the need for compromise rather than confrontation.

Hungarian Parliament Amends Constitution to Prevent Orbán's Return

The Hungarian parliament has approved a constitutional amendment limiting the maximum term of office for prime ministers to eight years, effectively preventing former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from returning to power. Current Prime Minister Péter Mátyás won a two-thirds majority in April elections, allowing his party to overturn or amend laws passed by Orbán's Fidesz party, including this constitutional change. The amendment also allows for the dissolution of the Office for the Protection of Sovereignty, established by Orbán's government, which had targeted individuals and journalists for 's
