Die Carolina Hurricanes haben zum zweiten Mal in ihrer Geschichte den Stanley Cup in der NHL gewonnen. Zuletzt hatten sie sich vor 20 Jahren den Titel gesichert.

In Las Vegas holte das Team gegen die Golden Knights durch ein 3:0 im sechsten Duell den entscheidenden vierten Sieg in der Best-of-Seven-Serie. Die erste Meisterschaft hatten die Hurricanes 2006 geholt. Trainer Rod Brind'Amour war damals Kapitän der Mannschaft.

Für die Golden Knights, die erst ihre neunte NHL-Saison spielen, platzten im dritten Stanley-Cup-Finale zum zweiten Mal alle Träume. Der einzige Titel bleibt der aus der Saison 2022/23.

Carolina trifft früh

Schon in der vierten Minute gelang Taylor Hall das 1:0 für die Gäste. Jackson Blake traf im zweiten Drittel zum 2:0. Danach hatten die Hurricanes die Partie im Griff - auch, weil Vegas die eigenen Gelegenheiten nicht nutzen konnte. 68 Sekunden vor dem Ende traf Nikolaj Ehlers zum 3:0, als die Golden Knights ohne Torwart den Anschlusstreffer erzwingen wollten.

Schon zuvor hatten die Gastgeber allerbeste Gelegenheiten vergeben. Symbolhaft stand ein Lattentreffer von Jack Eichel neuneinhalb Minuten vor Schluss, als er aus kurzer Distanz ohne Gegenspieler nicht erfolgreich war. Alle anderen Chancen wehrte der starke Hurricanes-Torwart Brandon Bussi ab.

Die Hurricanes hatten die Hauptrunde als bestes Team der Eastern Conference beendet und sich nach den vergeblichen Versuchen der vergangenen Jahre auch bis ins Stanley-Cup-Finale vorgearbeitet. Dort wurde die Mannschaft ihrer Favoritenrolle gerecht.
