De todos es conocido que los llamados factores de riesgo se caracterizan -entre otras cosas- porque aumentan la probabilidad de desarrollar la enfermedad cardiovascular; unos son modificables y, como su nombre indica, pueden prevenirse o controlarse con tratamiento médico o cambios en el estilo de ... vida (hipertensión arterial, colesterol elevado, tabaquismo, obesidad, etc.). Otros son conocidos como no modificables, porque se trata de características propias de la persona (edad, sexo, genética, antecedentes familiares, etc.), por lo que es imposible actuar sobre ellos.
