Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is overseeing the handling of an incident involving a number of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Taichung City, Taiwan, on June 14, 2026.
"The ministry, together with the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) in Taipei, continues to coordinate intensively with local authorities to ensure that the entire process is carried out in accordance with applicable laws," Minister of P2MI Mukhtarudin said in a statement here on Tuesday.
He stated that the government will continue to monitor the handling of the incident as an effort to ensure that every Indonesian citizen obtains consular access, assistance, and protection.
Based on information obtained from the KDEI in Taipei, as well as local authorities, the incident occurred around Taichung Station and involved a number of Indonesian citizens.
Currently, Taiwanese authorities are still conducting an investigation to identify all parties involved and to thoroughly understand the chronology of events.
Based on the latest developments obtained from the KDEI in Taipei, Taiwanese authorities have arrested seven Indonesian migrant workers suspected of being involved in the incident. The workers are identified by the initials G, S, N, SF, NAN, R, and A.
From the initial identification results, six of them were known to have missing worker status, while one other person had overstay status.
Currently, all those involved are still undergoing the examination process by local authorities and the investigation process is still ongoing.
Following up on these developments, the ministry continues to coordinate with the KDEI in Taipei to obtain the latest information regarding the legal status, immigration status, and conditions of the detained migrant workers.
The ministry also conducts data tracing and verification to ensure the identity and placement status of the workers.
Mukhtarudin also emphasized the importance of complying with the regulations in the host country as part of efforts to maintain safety and personal protection while working abroad.
"This case serves as a reminder to all Indonesian migrant workers to work with legal procedures, maintain legal immigration and employment status, and comply with the laws of their host country," he said.
Compliance with the rules is an important part of self-protection and ensuring legal certainty while working abroad, he said.
"The Indonesian government respects the ongoing legal process in Taiwan and will continue to coordinate with local authorities to ensure the case is handled fairly and transparently," he said.
The ministry urges all Indonesian migrant workers to comply with the laws and regulations in their host countries, maintain their legal immigration and employment status, and avoid actions that could result in legal consequences for themselves or others.
The ministry will also continue to monitor the development of the case and provide further information if there are any new developments.
