Big Club C tent by Rock Werchter is suddenly very close to neighborhood gardens

The Rock Werchter music festival has decided to relocate its large KluB C tent due to an expansion of 1.5 hectares. The new location places the tent very close to the gardens of nearby residents, such as Wim De Jong, who describes the construction as disruptive and noisy. The organizers have responded by stating they prioritized informing local residents and implemented measures to minimize disturbance, including scheduling work between 7 AM and 6 PM, using sound-absorbing panels, and avoiding traffic routes through the area.

Het festival Rock Werchter liet eerder al weten dat het met zo'n 1,5 hectare zou uitbreiden . Daardoor wordt de KluB C-tent op een andere plaats opgebouwd. KluB C is een gigantische hangaar waar zo'n 10.000 mensen binnen kunnen.

Alleen staat die constructie wel erg dicht bij een aantal tuinen. Zoals die van buurtbewoner Wim De Jong: "Deze 'fabriekshangaar' is 17 meter hoog en 40 are groot, dat is 2 keer zo groot als mijn tuin. Er is landbouwgrond afgegraven, zand aangevoerd en er zijn betonplaten gelegd. Ze zijn hier al 3 weken bezig, en dat is lawaai van 's morgens 7 uur tot 6 uur 's avonds."

De organisatie van Rock Werchter reageert. "De buurtbewoners zijn prioritair op de hoogte gebracht door onze buurtwerking. Elk evenement – klein of groot – brengt mogelijk een vorm van overlast met zich mee. We zijn ons hiervan bewust en zetten daarom in op open communicatie met de betrokkenen", zegt Nele Bigaré van Live Nation.

"Er was ook afstemming met de gemeente Rotselaar. We hebben een aantal maatregelen genomen: de opbouw- en afbraakperiode houden we zo kort mogelijk, de werken aan KluB C werden prioritair ingepland tussen 7 en 18 uur, het is geen aanrijroute voor leveranciers, er zijn akoestische wandplaten in KluB C en er zijn afgedoekte hekken rond het terrein. De gronden waren voorheen ook al in gebruik voor crewfaciliteiten, vanaf dit jaar krijgen ze een andere invulling en komen ze het publiek toe."

Rock Werchter begint op donderdag 2 juli en eindigt op zondag 5 juli 2026.
