Former business manager of Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe on money laundering trial

The Cairo Economic Court is set to hear the trial of Mohamed Waziri, the former business manager of Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe, on charges of money laundering. Waziri was previously convicted of embezzlement and fraud in 2021 but had his sentence reduced to two years in 2023. During the investigation, Waziri claimed he was married to Wehbe and managed her affairs, which she denies.

The Cairo Economic Court is scheduled to hear the trial of Mohamed Waziri, the former business manager of Lebanese artist Haifa Wehbe on Wednesday over charges of money laundering.

Investigating authorities referred Waziri to the Fifth Economic Crimes Circuit for criminal trial on charges related to money laundering, after completing their investigations into the case.

In May 2023, the Sheikh Zayed Appeals Court reduced Waziri’s sentence from five years to two years in prison for embezzling Wehbe’s funds, and overturned his conviction on fraud charges.

In February 2021, the Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court sentenced Waziri to five years in prison after convicting him of embezzlement and fraud against Wehbe, involving sums of money estimated at approximately LE63 million – equivalent to about four million US dollars.

This followed a months-long legal battle between the two parties.

During the investigation, Waziri said that he had married Wehbe in a customary marriage contract in March 2017 and that he had managed all her affairs since then.

The Lebanese artist denied these claims.
