Bij een aanrijding in het centrum van Blankenberge is zaterdagmiddag een fietser (77) gewond geraakt. De man verkeert evenwel niet in levensgevaar. Het parket onderzoekt de omstandigheden van het ongeval.

De hulpdiensten werden rond 11.30 uur gealarmeerd voor een ernstig verkeersongeval langs de De Smet de Naeyerlaan in Blankenberge, pal naast de Grote Markt. "Daar kwam het tot een aanrijding tussen een personenwagen en een 77-jarige man op de fiets", aldus politiecommissaris Jan Maertens. Het slachtoffer kreeg ter plaatse de eerste zorg toegediend.

"De fietser raakte gewond en verloor veel bloed. Maar hij was wel bij bewustzijn en aanspreekbaar", vervolgt Maertens. "Hij werd overgebracht naar het ziekenhuis. De bestuurder van de wagen legde een negatieve alcohol- en drugtest af."

"Omdat de omstandigheden van het ongeval onduidelijk zijn, en de fietser aanzienlijke verwondingen opliep, werd er een verkeersdeskundige aangesteld door het parket. Die moet in kaart brengen wat er juist gebeurd is." De politie vraagt om de omgeving te mijden. Door het ongeval ondervindt ook de kusttram hinder. Reizigers checken best eerst de app van De Lijn.
