Damit sollten Gebäude in der Umgebung getroffen werden, um eine Evakuierung der Veranstaltung zu erzwingen und die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer in Richtung einer Gruppe von Scharfschützen zu treiben. Im Anschluss sei geplant gewesen, den Eingang des Weißen Hauses zu stürmen, hieß es im Bericht.

Das FBI und die Strafverfolgungsbehörden seien bereits am 10. Juni auf eine „potenzielle Bedrohung“ für die Veranstaltung aufmerksam geworden, schrieb Patel.

Wie Fox News und CBS News berichteten, kam es daraufhin zu einer Festnahme. In Chats über den Messengerdienst Signal seien die Ermittler auf die mutmaßlichen Anschlagspläne aufmerksam geworden, was zu weiteren Festnahmen geführt habe.
