Farys restores the 1924 water tower in Dendermonde: works completed by mid-2027

In Dendermonde is watermaatschappij Farys gestart met de restauratie van de watertoren aan Bastion V. De toren staat op de vroegere militaire site en is erkend als een beschermd monument. Farys en de stad Dendermonde zochten samen eerst naar een nieuwe functie voor de watertoren, maar dat bleek financieel niet haalbaar. De werken zullen midden 2027 afgerond zijn.

De historische watertoren bevindt zich langs de Leopoldlaan, op de voormalige militaire site van Bastion V. Daardoor vormt hij een belangrijk visueel herkenningspunt voor de stad. Omdat een nieuwe functie voor de toren financieel niet haalbaar bleek, wordt het gebouw nu gerestaureerd.

De toren geeft bovendien een inkijk in de evolutie van de drinkwatervoorziening in België tijdens het interbellum.

De restauratiewerken zullen ruim een jaar duren en naar verwachting midden 2027 afgerond zijn.
