Drunk and under the influence of drugs: driver crashes into 2 cars in Tielt-Winge

A driver was involved in a collision with two other vehicles on Leuvensesteenweg in Tielt-Winge after losing control of his BMW. The incident occurred around 3 AM. The driver tested positive for both alcohol and drugs and had his license revoked for 15 days. One of the impacted cars was pushed against a tree before coming to rest beside the road. All three vehicles were severely damaged and required removal by a tow truck. Police conducted necessary investigations at the scene.

In de nacht van donderdag op vrijdag raakte een bestuurder met zijn BMW van de rijbaan op de Leuvensesteenweg in Tielt-Winge. De man reed daarbij 2 andere wagens aan en testte nadien positief op alcohol én drugs. Zijn rijbewijs werd onmiddellijk ingetrokken.

Het ongeval gebeurde rond 3 uur, ter hoogte van het kruispunt met de Glabbeeksesteenweg in Tielt-Winge. De bestuurder verloor de controle over zijn voertuig en botste vervolgens op 2 andere wagens. "Door de klap werd 1 van de aangereden wagens tegen een boom geslingerd, waarna hij tot stilstand kwam naast de rijbaan", zegt Kurt Marcoen, korpschef van de politiezone Hageland.

De 3 betrokken voertuigen raakten zwaar beschadigd. Een takelwagen moest ter plaatse komen om ze weg te slepen. "De interventieploeg van de politiezone Hageland ging ter plaatse en voerde de nodige vaststellingen uit", aldus zonechef Marcoen.

De bestuurder, een man van 40 uit Tielt-Winge, raakte zelf niet gewond bij het ongeval. Hij legde wel een positieve ademtest af en testte ook positief op het gebruik van verdovende middelen. De politie trok zijn rijbewijs in voor 15 dagen.
