Döbling hopes for a trial run for the Nussdorf market

The Nußdorfer Markt in Vienna could soon be revived through a temporary 'test market' initiative. The district council of Döbling unanimously approved a proposal for this trial, initiated by the Neos party. The goal is to assess public acceptance of a regular weekly market at the historic location. The Neos highlighted the area's good public transport connections as favorable conditions for revitalization. Similar test markets in other parts of Vienna have successfully become permanent fixtures.

Der Nußdorfer Markt könnte schon bald wieder stärker belebt werden. Die Bezirksvertretung Döbling hat in ihrer jüngsten Sitzung einstimmig einen Antrag für einen temporären „Markt auf Probe“ beschlossen. Damit soll getestet werden, ob ein regelmäßiger Wochenmarkt am traditionsreichen Standort von der Bevölkerung angenommen wird.

Initiator des Antrags war die Bezirksfraktion der Neos. Klubobmann Werner Albeseder begrüßte den einstimmigen Beschluss in einer Aussendung und verwies auf die breite Unterstützung im Bezirk. Nun liege es an der Stadt Wien beziehungsweise der für Märkte zuständigen Stadträtin Bettina Emmerling, die Umsetzung des Projekts zu prüfen und die nächsten Schritte einzuleiten.

„Enormes Potenzial“

Aufgrund seiner guten Anbindung an den öffentlichen Verkehr sehen die Neos günstige Voraussetzungen für eine Wiederbelebung des gesamten Areals. „Der traditionsreiche Nußdorfer Markt hat enormes Potenzial, das zuletzt nicht voll ausgeschöpft wurde“, heißt es in einer Aussendung.

Das Konzept eines „Marktes auf Probe“ wurde in Wien bereits mehrfach erprobt. Nach Angaben der Initiatoren des Antrags entwickelten sich mehrere zunächst temporär eingerichtete Märkte zu dauerhaften, beliebten Wochenmärkten. Dazu zählen etwa der Neubaumarkt in Neubau, der Matznermarkt in Penzing, der Alszeilenmarkt in Hernals sowie der Servitenmarkt am Alsergrund.
