Van ends up in Dender in Aalst, 2 people slightly injured to hospital

A delivery van crashed into the Dender river in Aalst, Belgium, around 9:50 PM. Two occupants were rescued by firefighters using a dive team and taken to the hospital for treatment. The accident occurred at the intersection of Kunstzijdestraat and Tragel when the vehicle went straight through the junction for an unknown reason. Bystanders quickly noticed the sinking vehicle and called emergency services. Firefighters from Aalst and Lede responded promptly. Police and a recovery service later arrived to remove the vehicle from the water.

In Aalst is een bestelwagen gisteravond in de Dender beland. De brandweer kwam snel ter plaatse met een duikploeg, die de 2 inzittenden op tijd uit het water kon halen. Ze werden allebei overgebracht naar het ziekenhuis.

Het ongeval gebeurde rond 21.50 uur. De bestelwagen kwam uit de Kunstzijdestraat gereden. Aan de Tragel liep het mis: om een nog onbekende reden reed het voertuig aan het kruispunt rechtdoor. Zo belandde de bestelwagen in het water.

Omstanders merkten het zinkende voertuig snel op en belden de hulpdiensten. Die kwamen snel ter plaatse. Zowel de brandweer van Aalst als van Lede snelden naar de plek van het incident. Uiteindelijk kon een duikploeg de 2 inzittenden op tijd uit het water halen.

Ze werden nadien allebei naar het ziekenhuis gebracht ter verzorging.

De politie kwam ook nog ter plaatse, en een takeldienst, om het voertuig uit het water te takelen.
