Με την Κροατία να μπαίνει ορεξάτη στο ματς και να απειλεί στο 3' με ένα πλασέ του Σούταλο, έπειτα από κόρνερ του Μόντριτς, άρχισε το ματς στο Ντάλας. Οι Άγγλοι επιχείρησαν να ελέγξουν τον ρυθμό και κρατούσαν την μπάλα στα πόδια προκειμένου να τραβήξουν τους παίκτες του Ντάλιτς από την περιοχή, ωστόσο δεν μπορούσαν να δημιουργήσουν.

Η «Χρβάτσκα» έψαξε αντίδραση και άρχισε να παίρνει μέτρα στον αγωνιστικό χώρο, την στιγμή που η Αγγλία απείλησε ξανά στο 31' με το επικίνδυνο γύρισμα του Μαντουέκε προς τον Μπέλιγχαμ, αλλά η μπάλα πέρασε από όλη την άμυνα παράλληλα και έφυγε άουτ.

Η ζωγραφιά του Μπατούρινα και το «κομμάτι» ιστορίας

Από το σημείο εκείνο και έπειτα το ματς «άναψε» για τα καλά, αφού στο 35' η Κροατία, έφερε το ματς στα ίσα! Έξυπνη επίθεση με την μπάλα να φτάνει στην περιοχή του Πίκφορντ, ο Μούσα έκανε τρομερή προσποίηση στον Κόνσα και πάσαρε στον Μπατούρινα και αυτός με έναν «πύραυλο» έστειλε την μπάλα στα δίχτυα για το 1-1!

Πριν όμως προλάβουν οι Κροάτες να χαρούν το γκολ, ένα «κομμάτι» ιστορίας, γράφτηκε στο Ντάλας. Και αυτό γιατί από νέο κόρνερ του Ράις, ο Χάρι Κέιν με κεφαλιά σκόραρε για το 2-1, έκανε «ντοπιέτα» και φτάνοντας τα 10 γκολ σε Μουντιάλ, έπιασε τον σπουδαίο Γκάρι Λίνεκερ.

Η Κροατία όμως δεν είχε πει την τελευταία της λέξη! Σε μια υποδειγματική επίθεση με μπαλιά του Μπατούρινα στην περιοχή, ο Πέρισιτς, «τρύπωσε» στην περιοχή, έκανε απίθανη κεφαλιά-πάσα στον Μούσα και αυτός την έκανε... ασίστ, αφού με βολ-πλανέ, έγραψε το 2-2 που ήταν και το σκορ για το πρώτο μέρος!

Κυριαρχία με το «καλημέρα»

Όπως ακριβώς ολοκληρώθηκε το πρώτο ημίχρονο, έτσι ακριβώς ξεκίνησε το δεύτερο, αλλά με την Αγγλία σε... beast mode! Λίγα δευτερόλεπτα μετά την εκκίνηση, ο Τζουντ Μπέλιγχαμ, βρέθηκε στα δεξιά της περιοχής και παρότι μαρκαρισμένος, πλάσαρε ιδανικά τον Λιβάκοβιτς για το 3-2!

Από το σημείο εκείνο και έπειτα το γήπεδο... έγειρε, καθώς η Αγγλία, έχασε σωρεία ευκαιριών για να διευρύνει το προβάδισμά της, ωστόσο έπεσε πάνω στον τρομερό Λιβάκοβιτς.

Ο πορτιέρε της Ντινάμο Ζάγκρεμπ για ένα επτάλεπτο απομάκρυνε κάθε κίνδυνο που πλησίαζε. Αρχικά στο 48' αρνήθηκε το δεύτερο γκολ στον Μπέλιγχαμ, ενώ ένα λεπτό αργότερα ο Ο'Ράιλι, αστόχησε από πλεονεκτική θέση με το κεφάλι.

Ο Λιβάκοβιτς συνέχισε τις αποκρούσεις όταν στο 52' έδιωξε το επικίνδυνο πλασέ του Ράις και τέσσερα λεπτά αργότερα, παρέδωσε μαθήματα ρεφλέξ καθώς προχώρησε σε τριπλή επέμβαση σε μόλις μια φάση, αφού αρνήθηκε το γκολ σε Ο' Ράιλι, Γκόρντον και Κόνσα.

Το «κερασάκι» που κλείδωσε τη νίκη

Από το σημείο εκείνο και έπειτα, η Αγγλία έκανε τη δική της διαχείριση, οι δυο προπονητές προχώρησαν σε αλλαγές και η Κροατία προσπάθησε να βρει τον τρόπο για την τρίτη της ισοφάριση στο ματς, όταν ο Πάσαλιτς στο 76' έκανε ωραία ενέργεια και σουτ το οποίο απέκρουσε ο Πίκφορντ.

Η Αγγλία έδωσε την μπάλα στους παίκτες του Ντάλιτς και αυτό της βγήκε σε καλό, αφού στο 84', μια από τις αλλαγές του Τούχελ, «καθάρισε» το ματς! Εξαιρετική αντεπίθεση με τον Ράσφορντ να γίνεται αποδέκτης και να κάνει τρομερή προσποίηση, αδειάζοντας τον Στάνισιτς και με άψογο πλασέ, διαμόρφωσε το τελικό 4-2!
