The town of Radovljica celebrated its municipal anniversary with a ceremony held on Linhart Square on Wednesday, August 7, 2026. During the event, Mayor Ciril Globočnik presented awards to individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the community. The highest honor awarded was given to the football club NK Lesce, which received a large plaque from the municipality in recognition of its 80th anniversary of operations. Other recipients included Gregor Remec for his long-term dedicated leadership of the Lancovo Local Community, the Lesce Pensioners Association for its 50th anniversary of activity, and the Radovljica Basketball Club for its 70th anniversary. Zinka Carotta received the city’s seal for her long-standing volunteer work with the Karitas Lesce organization. Darko Marolt, long-time president of NK Lesce, expressed gratitude on behalf of all awardees. He thanked the municipality of Radovljica, its citizens, and volunteers, emphasizing the importance of voluntary work despite common perceptions that money is the most crucial factor. He praised the municipality for recognizing the value of volunteering and supporting sports, culture, and other social activities. Marolt also noted his personal satisfaction with living in this municipality, despite frequent criticisms about societal issues. Mayor Globočnik acknowledged the awardees and highlighted major projects completed in the previous period while outlining planned investments for the coming months. Among the key projects mentioned were the complete renovation of the kitchen at Primary School A. T. Linhart in Radovljica, valued at 1.5 million euros, half of which was funded by the Ministry of Education. Infrastructure improvements along various road sections within the municipality are also underway, including renovations of the sports park in Lesce, the football field in Lesce, and a small football pitch in the Radovljica Sports Park. Long-term plans for upgrading the wastewater treatment plant have been delayed due to additional requirements from the ministry, though completion by the end of 2028 remains unchanged. The mayor emphasized that not all achievements are material, highlighting support for programs in health, social welfare, sport, culture, and intergenerational cooperation. Collaborating with public institutions, associations, and numerous invaluable volunteers creates an environment foundational for quality life. The event featured performances by popular singer Helena Blagne, who captivated the audience with a solo concert accompanied by culinary offerings from Okusov Radol'ce. In Celje, 42 students and university students participated in summer jobs aimed at gaining work experience and earning income during their holidays. These young people worked in various locations, including the city's administration, six organizations such as Tehnopark Celje, Tecos, Zelenice, the Fire Department Celje, Public Institution Socio, and the Incubator of the Savinja Region. Their tasks ranged from maintaining green areas and assisting in fire prevention efforts to participating in technical processes involving plastic materials and helping organize events like the UrbanGreenLeap project. The Summerjob initiative, organized by the Movement for a United World from the Focolare Movement, brought together approximately 40 young people for a week-long volunteer work camp. This annual event started in 2014 in Planina near Rakek and has since moved to different locations each year. Participants engaged in various tasks, including repairs, cleaning, painting, sanding wood, and organizing local areas. Each day followed a structured routine beginning with morning mass and breakfast, followed by motivational sessions before heading to work sites. Evenings concluded with dinner, socializing, and sharing experiences, reinforcing the significance of their contributions through heartfelt thanks from those they helped. For some participants, the experience was transformative. Jernej, who attended the camp for the fourth time, emphasized the importance of human connection over physical labor, noting how genuine gratitude from those assisted alleviated fatigue. For others like Marija, it was an initial step into volunteering, offering both practical benefits and emotional rewards. The collective effort of these young individuals underscored the value of community service, demonstrating how even modest contributions can significantly enhance lives and environments.
