The German press has chosen the English striker as Bundesliga Player of the Year

Harry Kane, 32-year-old English forward for Bayern Munich, has been named German Footballer of the Year 2026 by Germany’s association of sports journalists. The award was announced on August 23, 2026, during a ceremony held in Berlin, where Kane defeated French international Michael Olise to claim the prestigious title. This marks the first time an English player has won the honor since 1960, making Kane's achievement particularly notable in the context of German football's long-standing tradition of recognizing homegrown talent. Kane, who plays for Bayern Munich, had one of his best seasons in his career during the 2025–26 Bundesliga campaign, scoring an impressive 73 goals. With 272 votes from members of the German Sports Journalists Association, Kane narrowly edged out Olise, who received 203 votes. The selection process saw 695 members of the German Sports Journalists Association voting for the best player in the Bundesliga, whether they were German national team players or foreign-born athletes playing abroad. Kane, who has spent the majority of his career at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Bayern Munich in 2024, became the first Englishman to win the award since the competition began. His success underscores his status as one of the top forwards in world football and highlights his impact on both club and international levels. In addition to Kane’s triumph, Belgian coach Vincent Kompany was honored as German Coach of the Year 2026. Kompany took charge of Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024 and led the team to a successful season, marking his first major coaching accolade.
