The class for himself: the wimp before the Tour has increased the advantage over Vingegaard

Tadej Pogačar currently leads the cycling rankings with 11,593 points, significantly ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, who has 8,625 points and won last year's Giro d'Italia. Pogačar's teammate Isaac del Toro ranks third with 5,340 points. Slovenian charity collects aid for people in Venezuela after devastating earthquake

Slovenia's Caritas has begun collecting funds to assist residents of Venezuela affected by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 that struck on June 24. The natural disaster caused casualties, injuries, and significant damage to housing and infrastructure. Many people were left homeless and without basic necessities. The situation is further complicated by Venezuela's ongoing political and economic crisis, which has led to widespread poverty and lack of access to food, water, electricity, medicine, and fuel. Caritas Venezuela immediately started helping those affected and called on the international Caritas network for solidarity. Slovenia's Caritas, which has supported humanitarian programs in Venezuela since 2017, responded with a new fundraising campaign. Caritas Venezuela's executive director emphasized the fragility of human life and the need for mutual solidarity, stating that Caritas is present among people to provide comfort and concrete assistance. Staff members are assessing the damage and gathering data on urgent needs. Caritas Venezuela has established a national collection center for clean water, unspoiled food, medicines, and financial contributions. In the几天

Maribor's "Building a Root!" exhibition is a reminder that construction is nearing completion

The construction of the Maribor Rotovž Cultural Centre, which is increasingly being referred to as the 'City House of Culture Rotovž,' is nearing completion. To inform the public, photographs from the construction site have been displayed on Main Square. The exhibition, titled 'Gradimo Rotovž!' (We Are Building Rotovž!), will remain open throughout the summer and aims to highlight the progress made toward the center's opening. According to Jure Kirbiš from the Museum of Art Maribor (UGM), the project represents one of the largest infrastructure developments in the country's cultural sector and addresses long-standing spatial challenges faced by the Maribor Library and UGM. The complex will include a cinema, café, classrooms, and playrooms, funded partly through European grants and the Ministry of Culture. Mayor Saša Arsenovič emphasized that the space will be community-driven, allowing residents to contribute ideas and shape the content of the center. While the exact opening date has not yet been set, the library's books are expected to move into their new spaces by September.

35 years since the death of St. John

On June 28, 2026, the Local Veterans' Association for the War in Slovenia, Gornja Radgona, commemorated the 35th anniversary of the death of Janez Svetina, a civilian victim of the Slovenian independence war. The article describes how JNA forces under Colonel Berislav Popović attacked civilians in Gornja Radgona, Radenci, and Hrastje-Moti in June 1991, resulting in the death of Svetina. According to witness Franc Balantič, Svetina was killed by gunfire from an armored vehicle while attempting to photograph the advancing Yugoslav column. The article notes that JNA troops caused significant damage to the area, including the shooting of local resident Alojz Gaubert. Svetina, described as a writer, translator, world traveler, psychologist, and scholar of Indian spirituality and global literature, was born in 1941 in Recica near Bled. Additional commemorative events are planned for July 3, 2026, including a march along the Mur River.

Bled Shame: €200 fine for people cooling off under trees in the heat

The article reports on a controversy in Slovenia regarding fines imposed by local authorities on tourists and locals who seek shade under trees during extreme heat. The fines, set at 200 euros, are applied in areas designated for specific uses like swimming or resting, such as the coastal strip between Grahovo beach and the Grand Hotel Toplice. These zones are marked with warning signs and fencing, but some visitors continue to use them for cooling off. Local authorities claim they are protecting the coastline from erosion and enforcing rules, while critics argue the fines are excessive and counterproductive, especially during heatwaves. Social media reactions include both support and strong criticism, with some users mocking the enforcement and others accusing local authorities of prioritizing luxury tourism over accessibility.

File a complaint against Alenka Bratušek

Two leaders of the Fokus party, Marko Lotrič and Monika Kirbiš Rojs, have filed a criminal complaint against Alenko Bratušek, president of the Public Finance Oversight Commission. They accuse her of assigning to the commission responsibilities related to financing the Fokus party during a meeting, which they claim fall outside the commission’s legal authority. The complaint requests an investigation into potential abuse of office and misuse of public funds. In response, Bratušek stated that the request was made by the political party in accordance with the law and emphasized that the proposed conclusions do not include any accusations of wrongdoing. Lotrič denied claims that the party had backdated financial records, stating instead that private accounts were presented to show the party was funded by members and supporters. Meanwhile, tensions escalated at an emergency session of the National Council, where opposition parties criticized the ruling party for allegedly undermining democratic oversight mechanisms.
