Ownership

Oslobodjenje ("Liberation") was founded on 30 August 1943 as an anti-fascist Partisan newspaper. After post-war state and then employee/Sarajevo Brewery ownership phases, it is today owned by the company Oslobodjenje d.o.o., roughly 99% controlled by Bosnian businessman Mujo Selimovic through his firm Consulting & PR; minority shareholders include Sanela Karahmet, Amra Kebo, Najim Marusic and Aldijana Omeragic.

Funding

Financed commercially through newspaper sales, a paid digital content model, and advertising, rather than any state budget; it is a private, market-funded daily.

Affiliation & stance

Oslobodjenje is privately owned by a businessman rather than a party, church or the state, giving it an INDEPENDENT classification consistent with the site's tag. Editorially it is regarded as a centrist-to-centre-left, civic/pro-Bosnian title with a strong anti-nationalist legacy from its wartime reporting during the Siege of Sarajevo.

Harris Slato revealed the reasons for his departure from the railroad.

An American gets the maximum amount of recovery time at Wimbledon.

The article discusses the scheduling of the first-round doubles match at Wimbledon involving American tennis player Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams against the Argentine-Colombian pair Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio. The match was initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday but has been postponed due to Serena's injury during her singles match. Tournament organizer Andy Murray (likely a misstatement, as Andy Murray is a British player, and the correct name might be someone like Ashley Barker or another official) stated they are giving Serena as much time as possible to recover. They ruled out postponing the match to later dates unless necessary for safety or tournament flow. The match is expected to take place on a larger court to accommodate the large crowd attracted by Serena and Venus, who are major stars. Serena returned to professional tennis after four years, but she lost her first singles match and injured her knee. She did not attend a press conference afterward due to health reasons and expressed her commitment to participating in the doubles event. Serena and Venus have won six doubles titles together, including a title in 2016.

The Dragons have received a big reinforcement: the talented goalkeeper of the German Bundesliga will play for Bosnia and Herzegovina!

The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team has taken a significant step toward securing future talent by granting citizenship to young goalkeeper Amil Šiljević, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The decision was made by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which approved Šiljević’s naturalization as an individual of particular importance for the country in sports. Šiljević, born in 2007 in Frankfurt, has been part of Eintracht’s academy since age nine and is considered one of the most promising goalkeepers of his generation. Despite being called up to German youth teams and having the option to represent Serbia, he chose Bosnia and Herzegovina, joining the national youth setup in March 2024. However, he could not participate in friendly matches due to lacking a BH passport. With his new citizenship, he is now expected to gain eligibility to play for the senior national team, with the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina viewing him as a potential long-term solution for the position.

This island accidentally disappeared from the map, and it played a historic role in the famous rebellion

The article discusses the history of Pitcairn Island, focusing on its discovery by British explorer Philip Carteret in 1767 and the subsequent error in mapping its location. The island became famous as the refuge for mutineers from the HMS Bounty in 1790, who used the incorrect map coordinates to find it. The article explains how this cartographic mistake led to the island being effectively lost for many years until the Bounty mutineers arrived. It also describes the challenges faced by the early settlers, including conflicts, disease, and alcoholism, and notes that today Pitcairn remains a remote British overseas territory with a small population.
