The National Theatre of Sarajevo has announced the repertoire until the end of the year

The National Theatre of Sarajevo has unveiled its artistic programme for the upcoming season 2026/2027, marking the beginning of a new era filled with premieres, revivals, and performances of beloved works from the dramatic, operatic, ballet, and concert repertoire. The season will officially open on September 14, 2026, with the premiere of the dramatic play “Gogolj iz pepela” (“Gogol from Ashes”), an original project by director Petar Pejaković and the cast. Inspired by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol’s novel “Dead Souls,” this production promises to bring a fresh interpretation of one of literature’s most enduring stories to the stage. Following the premiere, additional performances are planned for September 15, November 21, and December 5, 2026. In October, the theatre will present the classical ballet “La Dame aux Camélias” (“The Lady of the Camellias”) choreographed by Vasily Medvedev. This ballet, based on Alexandre Dumas fils' novel, is a staple of the international repertoire and is expected to draw both local and international spectators.

For opera enthusiasts, late November brings the revival of one of the most frequently performed operas in the world, “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini. Additionally, a special gala concert will take place on November 19 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Opera Department within the National Theatre of Sarajevo. December will see the presentation of the beloved ballet fairy tale “Krcko Oraščić” (“Krcko the Nutcracker”), which will run for five performances on December 15, 16, 18, 22, and 23. Written by Ivan Bresan, this adaptation will be directed by Suljo Kupusović. Performances are scheduled for November 11 and December 12, providing two chances for audiences to witness this reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy in a uniquely Bosnian setting.
