The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war and will hold an official signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on social media early Monday, shortly followed by US President Donald Trump's confirmation.
Advertising
"The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete", US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform shortly after Sharif's announcement.
The agreement was reached despite an Israeli attack on Lebanon on Sunday, which was criticized by both Iran and US President Donald Trump.
The exact terms of the agreement were not immediately known. Sharif stated that the agreement calls for an "immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all battlefields, including Lebanon".
Several sources earlier told Reuters that the draft agreement envisages reopening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting the US blockade of Iranian ports and extending the ceasefire, while negotiations on Iran's nuclear program would continue for an additional 60 days.
In a post on social media, Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened "without passage fees" and that the US naval blockade would also be lifted.
"Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!" Trump tweeted.

"Lebanon will be a real test of the U.S.-Iranian peace agreement".
Many of the people we spoke to believe that the US administration's priority was to stop the regional conflict and reach a peace agreement with Iran and that Lebanon was not a priority, unlike the Israeli government, according to Al Jazeera's newsletter from Tyre.
Many here also feel that the Israeli government has failed to achieve its main strategic goal, which is to disarm Hezbollah.
On June 22nd, Lebanon and Israel will hold a new round of negotiations in Washington, and the main topic will be the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
