Een 24-jarige man is veroordeeld tot 4 jaar cel, na een steekpartij aan het station van Dendermonde in februari. De dader stak een stuk glas in de nek van een 28-jarige man na een woordenwisseling. Het slachtoffer werd in kritieke toestand naar het ziekenhuis gebracht.

Het incident gebeurde tijdens de nacht van 14 op 15 februari aan het station van Dendermonde. De dader vroeg een groepje vrienden - dat na een avondje stappen op weg was naar huis - om een sigaret. Maar dat contact mondde al snel uit in een aanval van de 24-jarige dader.

Hij haalde uit met een stuk glas en stak een 28-jarige man daarmee in de nek. Het slachtoffer moest in kritieke toestand naar het ziekenhuis gebracht worden.

De dader beweerde dat hij zich gediscrimineerd en racistisch bejegend had gevoeld, omdat de groep vrienden hem gevraagd had om Nederlands te spreken in plaats van Frans.

Volgens getuigen liep hij een tijd opgefokt in de stationsbuurt rond. Hij had voordien ook al een omheining ingetrapt.

De 24-jarige man is ook geen onbekende voor het gerecht, met een strafblad zowel in ons land als in Frankrijk. De rechtbank sprak de gevangenisstraf uit die het openbaar ministerie had gevorderd: 4 jaar effectief.
