Slovenia detects a dangerous pest again this year, help will be needed to control it

The Slovenian authorities have confirmed the discovery of a Japanese beetle at the Tepanje Jug rest area on the motorway. This is the first detection of this invasive species in Slovenia this year. The beetle was found in a pheromone trap set up for monitoring and early detection. It is likely that the beetle arrived via a vehicle from northern Italy, where the species is already widespread. Authorities first detected the beetle in Slovenia in late 2024 at the Lukovica and Barje rest areas. Due to repeated findings last year, they established restricted zones for eradication efforts.

Uprava bo v sodelovanju s strokovnimi službami okrepila spremljanje prisotnosti japonskega hrošča na širšem območju avtocestnega počivališča Tepanje jug s postavitvijo dodatnih feromonskih pasti in s pregledi.

Vsak sum naj z ustreznimi fotografijami sporočijo upravi prek njenih spletnih strani.

Japonski hrošč sodi med najbolj problematične karantenske škodljive organizme v Evropski uniji. Objeda liste, cvetove ali plodove vinske trte, koruze, češnje, breskve, nektarine, jablane, leske, aktinidije, fižola, soje, javorja, bresta, lipe, divjega kostanja in številnih drugih rastlin.

Njegovi ogrci hrošča so nekoliko manjši od večine drugih pahljačnikov.
