Tottenham are paying a lot of money for a Brighton defender

Tottenham Hotspur has signed Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. The transfer was confirmed by Tottenham's website, with the fee reported at £52 million (approximately 9.2 billion Icelandic krona). Van Hecke previously played for Brighton under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has now joined Tottenham. Van Hecke expressed his excitement about joining the club. Tottenham had a difficult season in the Premier League but narrowly avoided relegation, finishing in 17th place.

Enska úrvalsdeildarfélagið Tottenham styrkti varnarlínuna sína í kvöld með því að versla sér Hollendinginn Jan Paul van Hecke.

Þetta tilkynnti Tottenham á vefsíðu sinni.

Þessi nú fyrrverandi varnarmaður Brighton er keyptur á 52 milljónir punda að sögn fótboltaáhrifavaldsins Fabrizio Romano. Það jafngildir um 9,2 milljörðum íslenskra króna.

Van Hecke hittir nú fyrir á ný fyrrverandi þjálfara sinn hjá Brighton, Roberto De Zerbi,  sem er orðinn stjórinn hjá Tottenham.

„Það er gríðarlegur heiður að verða leikmaður Tottenham og draumur að rætast að semja við svona stórt félag,“ segir van Hecke.

Tottenham átti í miklum erfiðleikum í ensku úrvalsdeildinni á síðasta tímabili og bjargaði sér naumlega frá falli. Að lokum höfnuðu hinir liljuhvítu frá London í 17. sæti.

Van Hecke er að spila með Hollendingum á HM og lék allar níutíu mínúturnar í fyrsta leiknum á móti Japan.
