Søndag morgen lokal tid styrtet et privatfly nær Butler Memorial Airport i delstaten Missouri, rundt 65 mil sør for Kansas City .

Lokalt politi i Missouri bekrefter på X at et fly har styrtet og at alt tyder på at alle 12 er omkommet.

Ifølge Fox 4 var elleve av de tolv omkomne fallskjermhoppere om bord. Den siste var pilot.

En talsperson for fylkeskommune i Butler opplyser at flyet lettet fra Butler Memorial Airport, men snudde av ukjent årsak.

Like før klokken 11.30 lokal tid styrtet det i området ved Business 49 Highway.

Politiet fra Missouri State Highway Patrol, det amerikanske luftfartstilsynet (FAA) og havarikommisjonen NTSB er på stedet. De søker nå i området for å undersøke om noen av fallskjermhopperne kan ha rukket å hoppe ut før flyet styrtet, skriver Fox4.

Talspersonen sier at etterforskningen vil pågå i flere dager, mens man jobber med å finne årsaken til ulykken og fjerne vrakrestene.

Alle felt på Business 49 Highway nær flyplassen er stengt i begge retninger på ubestemt tid, ifølge Bates County Sheriff’s Office.

Bilister blir bedt om å finne en alternativ rute.
