Bandaríska alríkislögreglan hefur handtekið fimm menn sem ætluðu sér að gera árásir á bardagamót UFC sem fram fór í bakgarði Hvíta hússins, bústaðar forseta, á sunnudaginn.
Samkvæmt frétt BBC ætluðu mennirnir sér að gera árásir á nærliggjandi byggingar með sprengjuhlöðnum drónum auk þess sem þeir ætluðu að „skjóta á mikilvæg skotmörk.“
Árásin kæfð í fæðingu
„Meintar árásaráætlanir voru kæfðar í fæðingu,“ sagði Kash Patel, forstjóri FBI, í færslu á samfélagsmiðlum í dag.
Tycen Proper, Bryan Roa, Michael Thomas, Daniel Eskridge og Abraham Alvarez voru handteknir í sambandi við málið.
Markmið árásarmannanna var að skapa óreiðu á bardaganum með sprengjudrónunum. Svo ætluðu þeir að hefja skothríð á gesti sem flýðu af vettvanginum. Á meðan myndu aðrir árásarmenn hlaupa inn um hlið Hvíta hússins.
Upp komst um áætlanir mannanna eftir að móðir hins 19 ára Tycen Proper tilkynnti hann til lögreglu vegna vopnaburðar og undarlegrar hegðunar. Kom þá í ljós netspjall þar sem línur voru lagðar fyrir árásina.
