As ‘águias’, que terminaram a fase final da última edição do campeonato português no terceiro lugar, atrás do FC Porto e do tricampeão Sporting, destacam o “grande conhecimento do andebol nórdico e europeu” de Anders Hallberg, um treinador “reconhecido” por gostar “de potenciar jovens atletas”.

O Benfica, campeão nacional em sete ocasiões, não conquista o título desde a época 2007/08.
