Ο Εμανουέλ Μακρόν δήλωσε σήμερα ότι «είχε πάντα εμπιστοσύνη» στον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ , τον Αμερικανό πρόεδρο, ο οποίος έκανε μια απροσδόκητη στροφή υπέρ της Ουκρανίας κατά τη διάρκεια της συνόδου κορυφής της G7 που διεξήχθη στο Εβιάν.
«Πάντα του έλεγα τα πράγματα ευθέως. Όταν διαφωνούμε, το παραδεχόμαστε. Αλλά όταν δεσμευόταν απέναντί μας, έκανε πάντα ό,τι υποσχόταν», δήλωσε ο Γάλλος πρόεδρος σε συνέντευξη Τύπου.
Ο Μακρόν επεφύλαξε θερμή υποδοχή στον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, ο οποίος δεν ενδιαφέρεται πολύ γι' αυτές τις διεθνείς συναντήσεις και μάλιστα είχε αναχωρήσει πρόωρα πέρυσι από τη σύνοδο κορυφής της G7 στον Καναδά.

Ωστόσο «ποτέ δεν ήμουν ασαφής ή αδύναμος και πάντα ήμουν ξεκάθαρος όταν εξέφραζα τις διαφωνίες μου», δήλωσε, επικαλούμενος τη Γροιλανδία και την Ουκρανία.
Ο Μακρόν δήλωσε ότι «διατηρούσε πάντα τον διάλογο», καθώς η διπλωματία δεν συνίσταται μόνο στο να υποδέχεσαι «ανθρώπους με τους οποίους συμφωνείς πλήρως».
Έκρινε ότι ο ρόλος της Γαλλίας είναι επίσης να ξέρει να «τιμά τους καλεσμένους της». «Και ας μην ντρεπόμαστε γι' αυτό που είμαστε. Οι Βερσαλλίες είναι ένα διπλωματικό εργαλείο και ένα όργανο ισχύος», τόνισε.

«Αν δεν είχαμε δει σήμερα τον πρόεδρο Τραμπ, την ομάδα του, εάν τις τελευταίες δύο ημέρες δεν είχαμε πραγματοποιήσει αυτήν τη G7, πού θα ήμασταν με την τεχνητή νοημοσύνη;» δήλωσε ο Μακρόν, αυτή η τεχνολογία ήταν στην ατζέντα των συναντήσεων της Τετάρτης.
