Manuel Neuer , 40-godišnji njemački vratar, najavio je da će krug reprezentacije i definitivno napustiti po završetku aktualnog Svjetskog prvenstva na tlu Sjeverne Amerike.
Najavio je takvo što Neuer uoči utakmice drugog kola skupine E između Njemačke i Obale Bjelokosti koja se u Torontu igra ove subote s početkom u 22 sata. U prvom kolu Njemačka je pobijedila Curacao 7-1, a Neuer je čuvao njemačku mrežu.
„Ovo je moj posljednji veliki turnir s Njemačkom. Nemam nikakve planove za Europsko prvenstvo, za dvije godine. Želim živjeti opušteno, a ne stalno razmišljati o posljednjoj utakmici i oproštaju“, rekao je Neuer.
Legendarni vratar Bayerna i Elfa skupio je tijekom sjajne karijere 125 nastupa u reprezentativnom dresu, a popularni je Elf napustio nakon Europskog prvenstva 2024. godine. Odlučio se za povratak uoči ovog Svjetskog prvenstva premda je od Eura pauzirao te niti jednu minutu nije branio za Njemačku tijekom kvalifikacija.
„Odlučio sam se za povratak jer vjerujem da ova momčad može još jednom do kraja, do svjetskog naslova. Da nisam vidio šansu za takvo što danas me sigurno ne bi bilo ovdje“, poručio je Neuer koji je s Njemačkom osvojio naslov svjetskog prvaka 2014. godine. Na prvenstvu u Brazilu Neuer je izabran za najboljeg vratara te je bio golman s najviše odrađenih utakmica uz netaknutu mrežu.
U reprezentaciji je Neuer debitirao daleke 2009. godine.
