Tridesetogodišnji muškarac preminuo je u četvrtak na atletskoj stazi u blizini Pariza, dok je novi toplinski val zahvatio veći dio Francuske, prisiljavajući na otkazivanje desetaka vlakova i obustavu nastave. Iako astronomsko ljeto počinje tek u nedjelju, ovo je već drugi toplinski val u Francuskoj ove godine, nakon neuobičajeno vrućeg razdoblja u svibnju koje je oborilo rekorde u polovici zemlje. Muškarac je umro u četvrtak ujutro na atletskoj stazi u sjevernom pariškom predgrađu Ermontu, rekli su vatrogasci, dodajući da je doživio srčani zastoj i da pokušaji oživljavanja nisu uspjeli. Četvrtina zemlje, uključujući Pariz, stavljena je u narančasto stanje pripravnosti, a vlasti su pozvale stanovnike na "izniman oprez".

U gradu Toursu u dolini Loire, gradonačelnik Emmanuel Denis rekao je da neće oklijevati zatvoriti 58 obrazovnih ustanova ako postane prevruće. "Na 40 stupnjeva zatvorit ću škole", rekao je. Tijekom toplinskog vala u lipnju prošle godine, oko 2200 škola bilo je zatvoreno diljem zemlje.
