Aktualna olimpijska doprvakinja Donna Vekić došla je u nedjelju do najvrjednijeg trofeja u karijeri, kad je u statusu "sretne gubitnice" iz kvalifikacija u finalu WTA 500 turnira na travnatoj podlozi u londonskom Queen's Clubu pobijedila domaću miljenicu Emmu Raducanu sa 6-0, 7-6 (6).
Vekić je u svom 15. finalu na WTA Touru došla do petog naslova i drugog na travnatoj podlozi.

Triput je Vekić slomila njen servis i ostavila ju bez prilike za 'break' pa je za 29 minuta osvojila prvi set sa 6-0.
Donna je osvojila i prvi gem u drugom setu, ali onda se i Raducanu uključila u ovaj finalni dvoboj. U trećem gem je došla do prvog 'breaka', ponovno je oduzela servis Vekić i u sedmom gemu te došla do vodstva 5-2.
Iako se činilo da je treći set neizbježan, Vekić nije razmišljala na taj način i nije se predavala. U osmom gemu je vratila jedan 'break', zadržala servis, a onda još jednim 'breakom' izjednačila na 5-5.
Od sljedećih deset poena Osječanka je osvojila njih osam i time došla do dvije meč-lopte. Raducanu je ostala mentalno snažna i s dva dobra servisa se izvukla. No, poen poslije je bila suočena s trećom meč-loptom, ali je i tada odigrala hladnokrvno i precizno. U konačnici je Britanka osvojila 12. gem drugog seta i odvela ga u 'tie-break'.
Vekić je na početku bila nadomoćna i osvojila četiri od prvih pet poena za 4-1. No, uporna i borbena Raducanu se vratila do 4-4. Kod rezultata 5-5 Donna je došla do 'mini-breaka' i četvrte meč-lopte, ali se Raducanu još jednom spasila. No, dva poena poslije, spasa više nije bilo. Poslala je loptu izvan granica igrališta na petu meč-loptu svoje suparnice, čime je Donna Vekić osvojila svoj peti WTA naslov u karijeri.
Bilo je to Donnino 15. finale u kojem je prekinula čekanje na peti naslov koje je trajalo od Monterreya 2023.
Emma Raducanu je ostala na jedinom naslovu osvojenom još 2021., kad je postala jedina kvalifikantica koja je osvojila US Open. Britanka je do ove godine čekala na svoje novo finala, ali je i ovo u njenom gradu završilo kao i ono u Cluju, bez pobjedničkog trofeja u rukama.
Osvojeni bodovi će Donni Vekić donijeti pomak od 44 mjesta na WTA ljestvici pa će od ponedjeljka ponovno biti najbolje rangirana hrvatska tenisačica, a naći će se na 32. poziciji, mjesto iza Emme Raducanu koja će napredovati za 11 pozicija u odnosu na ovaj tjedan.
