Seven Grade 5 students injured in Cavite school stabbing

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Seven Grade 5 students were injured after allegedly being stabbed by a Grade 8 student using a kitchen knife at a private school in General Trias City, Cavite on Tuesday morning.

In a Facebook post written in Filipino at around 7:25 p.m., Mayor Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV said he immediately went to the school in Barangay Sta. Clara, with police officers, social workers, and Department of Education officials, to look into the situation.

“Classes were also suspended as part of the standard operating procedure,” Ferrer said.

The mayor noted that the injured students were rushed to the hospital, with two later transferred to a larger medical facility for surgery due to the severity of their injuries.

“We visited them and their parents at the hospital and assured them that the city government would provide the necessary support for their hospital expenses,” he said.

Ferrer added that social workers would provide immediate psychosocial intervention and assistance, particularly to students who may have experienced trauma following the incident.

He said he also spoke with the student involved before the child was brought to a mental health institution for proper assessment.

According to a news report, the alleged stabber is a female student.

Ferrer emphasized that although the student involved is a minor, “this type of incident is unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, Police Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan, director of the Police Regional Office 4A, declined to release further details, saying the incident remains under investigation.

“We are committed to protecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation, as well as safeguarding the privacy and identity of the students involved,” Marantan said in a statement issued around 5:30 p.m.
