Drevni hrast u srcu Šervudske šume, u Notingemširu u Velikoj Britaniji, za koji se veruje da je star 1.200 godina, osušio se, a Dobrotvorno društvo zaduženo za očuvanje šume saopštilo je da se hrast već neko vreme sušio usled toplotnih talasa i suša.

Iz Društva dodaju i da je veliki broj posetilaca ugazio tlo oko njega, što je sve doprinelo slabljenju drveta, prenosi "Skaj njuz".

Fond za očuvanje šume, koji je proglasio hrast najčuvenijim drvetom 2014. godine , objavio je da je stablo uvelo, između ostalog, od posledica "prekomernog turizma" . Stručni konsultant Ed Pajn ukazao je da je to znak upozorenja, kao i da će način postupanja sa drevnim drvećem uticati na to da li će ono preživeti za buduće generacije.

Posetioci su godinama imali priliku da priđu do samog hrasta, koji datira još iz vremena osvajanja Normana.

Takođe je bilo dozvoljeno popeti se na samo šuplje deblo drveta, ali je okolno područje ograđeno 70-ih godina prošlog veka, pa su od tada posetioci mogli da posmatraju hrast samo sa distance.

Hrast će ostati na svom mestu kao spomenik , a dobrotvorna fondacija saopštila je da će drvo predstavljati trajnu baštinu neraskidivo povezanu sa sećanjem na Robina Huda i Šervudsku šumu. Zbog toga je i samo drvo nazivano "Robin Hud".

Žirovi i mladice koji su izbijali iz drveta posađeni su na više lokacija širom sveta, dodatno jačajući nasleđe prastarog hrasta, preneo je "Skaj njuz".
